JJ just graduated from Carolina, and is a friend of mine from school (Yeah I know, I played Cam in Madden etc etc). He's a great writer, and even as a student manged to remain really objective about UNC sports when reporting on them. I'm none too fond of Person, so at least for me this is a great move. He's pretty active on Twitter, and will hopefully be a good addition to the local beat

Just wanted him to know from the jump, that he's gotta do better than him. He will be better than Person of course. He's young, has a lot to prove, and probably wants to move up. In saying that, it will probably push Person to step up his game for fear of losing his job to the "new kid at work"

Right, forgot about that. No excuses for that; it caused a pretty good stir on both campuses around game day. But aside from that, his work at the DTH and Carolina Blue has been solid so hopefully he can bring a little more insight to the Observer's coverage of the Panthers

Hopefully he'll do a good job, but I will say this: based on his Twitter feed, KT will find a lot to like about this guy. If he keeps his politics out of his Panthers coverege he should do fine, at least by the standards of the Observer.
