What positions do the Panthers need more competition this season?

Recommended Posts

After reading several threads about bringing in more WR's to compete a thought occurred to me. Don't we have more pressing areas we could be addressing?

I believe WR gets talked about most due to the fact that the position is pretty understood. The statistics are comprehendible and it is relatively easy to point at a player and say lets bring him in, he had X amount of TD's and X amount of yards last season.

Positions overlooked by this forum tend to include defensive positions. Areas where statistics are not as easy to read.

In short, what positions, if any, would you like to see the Panthers bring in more competition during preseason? What positions should we be watching for talent to be released by other teams.

I feel DT, Safeties, TE, CB are a concern. Depth on the o-line as well. What are your thoughts?

To be honest, I don't think any position is "overlooked" by this forum. Our concern is in many ways mirrors the concerns of the FO and coaches, it's just that the Huddle doesn't have any actual say-so in the decision making. Moreover, the organization has to face the reality of the cap in the face, which makes the Panthers very cognizant of the fact that everything can't be addressed all at once, whereas the Huddle wants what it wants now (regardless of financial constraints).

Going over recent memory, most people in the Huddle would have liked to see more competition at the DT position. Personally I would have liked this also, but we have what we have, and though I know that there is going to be competition at the position, I would have liked to see an upgrade at competition at the position. The same can probably be said for DE because our pass rush was quite ordinary (if that) last year.

For me, it's

#2 CB

DT opposite Edwards

Latter half of the WR corp

SS and FS

Guard

RT

K

P

Barnidge vs himself (injury)

TD vs himself (injury)

Clausen vs himself (development)

DE

Lb depth chart

Also McDermott, he needs to get better. Sure he was using spare parts last season but still, that was just pitiful.

DE. CJ's spot is locked because he got big money and the Kracken is pretty entrenched. That's a situation that doesn't provide for a whole lot of competition. Don't get me wrong, I love 95 and 76, but who's to say that Alexander or Applewhite couldn't be better.
