Here is why I think the Panthers will go 9-7 at best

Recommended Posts

Umm.. OK, if beating the team that eventually makes it to the super bowl doesn't count, then what does exactly?

Correct me if Im wrong but didnt that team CRUSH us in the playoffs to get to the super bowl? Arizona was only a 9-7 in the regular season when we beat and were still trying to find themselves. We were very fortunate to even beat them. In fact we were the only team they played on the east coast that they had no problems with.

Didn't answer the question, what exactly makes a quality win in your book, so that it wouldn't seem impossible to win more than 9 games in '09.

So, who's your Super Bowl prediction, Arizona vs Pittsburgh since they made the Super Bowl last year?

I'll take it step further and predict the whole playoff seeding for the NFC.

1. Giants

2. Panthers

3. Minnesota

4. Arizona

5. Atlana

6. Philly

I should have put the panthers as the number one seed, but Im just not a true fan like many of the others. :(

The Arizona team in the playoffs and the Arizona team in the reuglar season were two different teams in case you didnt notice. We beat the team that lost

47-7 vs NE

35-14 vs Minnesota

48-20 vs Philly

56-35 vs the Jets

Not the team that nearly won the super bowl. That team smacked us around 33-13 as I recall.

If we had beaten Arizona in the playoffs then it would have been a quality win

Ahhhh, OK. So losing ONE game in the playoffs, to the team that went to the Super Bowl, means that we will win MAX 9 games in the regular season next year. Gotcha. That 12-4 regular season record might as well throw out the window.

Is that a 2nd account for LBF? The logic, or lack thereof, seems strangely familiar.

Did I say that ONE loss was the reason we will only win 9 games next year? No I dont beleive I did. We played 6 games vs playoff teams last year and went 2-4 in them. If you want to dismiss that and dismiss the fact that we had a very favorable schedule last year as a result of our 12-4 record then go ahead. This years schedule wont be loaded with cup cakes and mediocre teams like last year.

The reason i think this is because I don't think they can beat top teams and I think the snuck in a couple of victories lagainst average teams last year that they will not this year.

The first two victories of the season looked great at the time but it ends up that these were both .500 teams

Then loss to the vikings who ended up 10-6.

The Vikings only won because Nick Goings can't block.

Then beat the falcons. This is a big time win i think.

Then KC - crap

Then NO - crap

At the time NO was competing for the division.

Then Arizona - 2nd big time win although still a 9-7 team

Raiders - Crap

Lions - Crap

loss to Falcons - looked terrible

We had a slow start. We almost had the comeback. Have Ryan throw that 3rd and long pass again and Marshall picks it I guarantee it.

Green Bay win - 6-10 team

TB - good to win in division 9-7 team

Denver 8-8

Giants - better team than Carolina but put up a fight

They were not a better team. Had we not lost our 2 starting DTs we would have won. Also we were one tipped pass away from winning. Godfrey knocked the ball out of the air when Gamble had a pick.

Saiints - crap

CAROLINA's two quality wins were Arizona and Atlanta?

Carolina barely did better than 500 against the division - a 2 point win against NO at the end of the season ensured that they did

Carolina did not beat a team with a record better than 9-7 except Atlanta

Don't get me wrong, carolina beat the teams it had to beat and that is what it is all about. I hope they do it again. But there is no way they do well against Patriots, Giants, Miami, Philly, Minnesota. And if they don't then they need to run through the division which they will not.

before you get all riled up, i love the panthers and hope they do well. i am buying PSLs for a crap load of $$ and i hope they win the superbowl. But i don't think they can win big games.

Flame away!

Fixed.

We played 6 games vs playoff teams last year and went 2-4 in them.

We beat Atlanta, playoff team.

San Diego, playoff team.

Arizona, playoff team.

Sounds like more than 2 wins to me. Is there a mod around that can check IPs, this guy seriously reminds me a little too much of LBF.

Fine, they went 3-4 vs playoff teams. Of coarse one of those playoff teams was 8-8 but we'll just dismiss that important stat as well. Boy you really schooled me. I guess that means we'll win 12 games again next year.

Since we established the fact that last year has little to do with this year, and we agreed that teams that made the playoffs last year may or may not be better or worse than last year, why are we going back and forth about who was a playoff team last year or why or why not we should have, could have beat them.

The logic is flawed so any prediction or result derived from it is flawed as well.

What lost most of our games last year particularly in the second half of the season was defense and critical injuries to our defensive line. The guys are healthy and we have a new defensive scheme.

If you are going to argue about why or why not we will win this year, talk about this team and what we have added or not added. Talk about what other teams have added or not added. But can we all at least move into 2009.

The rest is history and largely irrelevant!!!!

The defensive scheme will still be the same. People think just because we hired a new DC that its going to be different all of a sudden.Meeks will be nothing more than a John Fox puppet just like the rest of the coordinators. And we still dont know if Peppers will even bother to show up. If he doesnt our average pass rush will remain average or become even worse which means our whole defense will still struggle.

Yeah, .500 regular season record vs playoff teams. That's better than the Steelers. And one of their wins was vs. San Diego (by 1 point) who you mentioned.

"The Vikings only won because Nick Goings can't block."

Even without that play the vikings still win 13-10:rolleyes:

"At the time NO was competing for the division."

So was every other team in the league.

"We had a slow start. We almost had the comeback. Have Ryan throw that 3rd and long pass again and Marshall picks it I guarantee it."

Almost means nothing and if "if" and "buts" were candy and nuts....The bottomline we got SPANKED!

"They were not a better team. Had we not lost our 2 starting DTs we would have won. Also we were one tipped pass away from winning. Godfrey knocked the ball out of the air when Gamble had a pick"

Um yes they were thats why they won. They were also without Osi and Plexico Burress. Plus Justin Tuck had the flu and barely played. The giants also had nearly two INTs that could have made a difference.
