QB Possibilities

Recommended Posts

1. Delhomme didn't sign a "big Buck" deal, he signed a middle of the road buck deal.

2.McCown was targeted because of his familiarity with many, many different systems, he's also not exactly anyone's future since he's 30 this year and couldn't beat anyone out in places like Oakland to be a starter.

He's here because the team is terrified of Delhomme going down again.

3. Moore was picked up because Carr and Testaverde simply weren't cutting it and there was literally NO ONE out there with any kind of experience in a vertical(ish) passing offense. He came in, performed and he's been kept around for that reason, it's not as if we chased him down since college.

4. He's a body for our scouts to play against, he'd still realistically be 3 years away from even serviceable in the NFL. Realistically he's competition and nothing more.

We need an upgrade.

20 million guaranteed. Big bucks to me. Nickel dime comments.

Moore was picked up BEFORE JAKE went down. We took him as soon as Dallas waived him.

WE DON'T NEED AN UPGRADE we need whiners to stop whining about it and get onboard with the program.

Don't jump back on the bandwagon when Jake leads this team again.

OMFG!!! No Jake in 2007 = NO PLAYOFFS! What a miserable year that was with our QB carousel. The following year Jake returns = ( 12-4 ) First round bye.NFC SOuth Champions. I think we have our QB thanks for playing...

Get the F' Over it, Jake is here and he's a winner, Jake didnt help in the Arizona game forcing balls to Smitty but neither did our secondary letting Fitzgerald catch absolutley everything without BOLDIN in the lineup!

Delhomme is our QB no if ands or buts. But is jakey decides to show his ass, then you better believe our FO will turn the reigns over to Moore. But as long as Jake continues to win football games, then he will be our QB. I for one will not complain, as long as D Will is scoring at least 12 TDs from 30 yards back this season

OregonLove I believe is the poster that said Kellen Clemens is better than Philip Rivers...so anything he says should be taken with a grain of salt.

That is not what I said. You just can't read or assume to much. What I said is that Clemens is tough son of beatch, and Carolina needs someone like that. What I believe is that Delhomme is not a bad qb, andhas his toughness, but he is not a tough son of a beatch in the sense of that good ole boy attitude that he can take a lot of poo. I know I know a lot of Carolina fans feel different, and I don't disagree he plays hard and has left it hangin out there, but the dude lacks that "it" mentality. Again, Rivers is good, but his team really made him better for a bit there than he really is. Clemens is untested, but I will tell you what, his OLine has faith and he has the potential to rise. We will see. I was not saying he was the answer.

So don't put words in to my mouth, it was a comparison of certain qb's that have the "it" factor or in this case, one who could have it. Delhomme lacks it, and Moore is a pussy, you all retarded if you think he can take this team deep. Another prime example of fans out east who do not see what happens out west, then a kid has a couple good outings, and then you think he has potential to be a stud.

And to whoever wrote he has a gun, his arm is mediocre, any qb in the NFL can zip a ball here and there, but over and over, Moore can't. I am tryint to learn a little about the Panthers and appreciate all who have some analysis, but maybe listen to someone who has seen some of the Panthers for a lot longer, like I have seen Moore since high school, through college, and now some in the NFL.........he will not be anything more than o.k.

Saying Jake isn't tough means you really haven't watched him play.

IMO Clemens doesn't have the "it" factor or the Jets wouldn't be trying so hard not to start him. All this Oline has faith potential to rise stuff is your imagination.

Moore as far as I'm concerned is 2-1 as a starter. Thats a promising start no matter what the circumstances.

Having a strong arm doesn't make you a good quarterback.

When you say on one hand Carolina needs someone like Clemens. Then on the other hand say "I am no saying Clemens is the answer". What exactly do you mean?

Joe Montana didn't have a strong arm either. I'm not comparing Jake to Joe. But alot more goes into being a good QB, than can win the big games. But I bet if Jake started playing more like Joe he would be a better QB. Easier said...... I just think all the criticism Jake has gotten this offseason is premature. If he has an up and down season again, then yes dump him and move on. I think he will have a great year though with a full year to get used to his arm and the surgery. How many years did he play with it messed up, before it finally gave out? So he had to get used to it, that's all I'm saying. This up coming season will be the make or break season for me with him.

The only thing Jake was consistent at last season was being inconsistent. I love the guy though and I hope he can win us a Super Bowl. Matt Moore isn't Tom Brady or even a starting quarterback for that matter. If Moore was a diamond in the rough, I highly doubt that he would be a third string quarterback up to this point. As far as McCown goes, I honestly don't know why we even have him on the roster. Isn't there some other backup out there who can play better than McCown? Maybe it's about the money when it comes to McCown. I want our franchise to draft a quarterback and have them develop into a starter rather than trying to find a replacement future quarterback from another team. How many teams have won the Super Bowl with a quarterback that they didn't draft? It doesn't happen too often. Super Bowl winning teams are built through the draft.

Thanks for that list, I think the only exceptional players that won without their originally drafted teams are Kurt Warner and Trent Dilfer. Honorable mentions today who aren't winners are Drew Brees and Kurt Warner again who topped the stat charts last season in production, and they don't play for their originally drafted teams. Basically, most of the Super Bowl winning quarterbacks have been drafted and won with their original team and not too many teams have won a Super Bowl with a quarterback that was picked up from a trade or free agency. The diamonds are too hard to find nowadays.

Isn't that the very nature of a diamond in the rough?

It's worth noting that there have always been players that have ridden the bench behind veterans while seeming to be a better option. Most recently, of course, was Williams sitting behind Foster for two years.

Now, that's not to say Moore is a better option than Delhomme right now. But with the proper coaching, I would not rule out his ability to become an effective starting quarterback in the NFL.

I'd certainly take him over all of these undrafted rookies everyone is swooning over (see Graham Harrell).
