QB Possibilities

Recommended Posts

So lets try this again, since all anyone wants to do is talk poo and not analyze this. Its simple:

Jake the Snake is not going to take Carolina to a SuperBowl Title, he is old and limited in his ability and to win a SuperBowl Title you need to do more than just manage a team. Moore is not the answer in my opinion. He sucks and I say this having watched him play at OSU and follow his transition into the NFL. He is not a winner, a medicore QB at best.

So, who would you all like to see come in and lead the Panthers at the QB position?

And to the few of you who thought my first post was bs, well eff you, I apologize for introducing myself, and making an educated assessment and then ask what the "true Carolina" fans thought, only to receive a bunch of blah blah blah. Next time I will state, "Hey Carolina, you are the greatest team in NFL history and Jake Delhomme is the man." Eff you guys, get over it and talk football, not one liners that don't answer questions or have any insight.

And by the way, I am not the Lone Buc Fan, I hate the Bucs. And I don't go on a site just to talk poo. I like Carolina, and want to see them win it all. And yes, I want my boys JStew and Dante Rosario to excel, so GO PANTHERS!

This is not exactly an 'educated assessment'. You just claim that two of the QBs on our roster are useless and have no place being on an NFL team, yet both of them have won games in the NFL...

Trying to be diplomatic, how many QBs in this league do you feel are currently capable of winning the superbowl? I am talking about QBs who have the skill to carry their teams, win games and motivate them throughout the season to win it all. There are not many who I can definitively say are truely capable, as most will rely on playing safe and getting big help from their defense. Simple fact is, if our defense held out down the stretch, I reckon we would have come awful close last season.

So that is the first thing to 'assess'. Who, in the NFL, can actually do what you claim already. You simply can't use names like Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco. Neither were responsible for the resurgence of their teams and they are yet to show they can carry the team and be responsible for the win column.

Secondly is, how many of these guys are available? That we do NOT need to assess. None are. Why? They are DAMN rare to find, let alone aquire from a team. Only way we get hold of one, is if the team goes into meltdown and needs rebuilding and that specific QB wants out. Then we have a MASSIVE bidding war with over half the league, because they all need that 'awesome QB', so chances are we do not even get a sniff because of how we utilise our QBs in our system.

So what does that leave us? The best of whats rest. The guys who will not win the big one for you, but will win a couple of games, maybe put up some nice numbers every now and then. Alternatively we can try a failure at another team and ask the scouting department to do a better analysis than they did on David Carr. then there is the rookie route, but that will leave us with Jake at the helm for two or three years. Tricky.

Whilst I would love to have a true superstar at the helm, it is really a lottery when it comes to QBs, moreso than any other position. It relys on so many factors, chemistry with the receivers, the right scheme, a decent offensive line to keep them upright, the right mental strength etc etc etc

So all we can do is bring in guys who have that mental strength, who are determined to improve and ALWAYS give their all. Just like every other team. Then we hope they pan out. Just like every other team. We try to get the other players around them and hope they then gel. Just like every other team.

Oregon Love here are our possibilities.

1. Jake Delhomme just signed a 5yr big buck deal. Probably #1 Option.

2. Josh McCown Signed last season a player management has had their eye on.

3. Matt Moore. Another player our F.O. had their eye on and signed him immediately after Dallas let him go.

4. Hunter Cantwell the UDFA from Louisville.

That is IT. We aren't gonna trade, we most likely won't add anyone else. You have banished Jake and Matt so either McNown and Cantwell.

Not gonna argue your assessment as it is pretty baseless.

My Choice in order

Jake Delhomme

Matt Moore

Josh McCown

Hunter Cantwell.

1. Delhomme didn't sign a "big Buck" deal, he signed a middle of the road buck deal.

2.McCown was targeted because of his familiarity with many, many different systems, he's also not exactly anyone's future since he's 30 this year and couldn't beat anyone out in places like Oakland to be a starter.

He's here because the team is terrified of Delhomme going down again.

3. Moore was picked up because Carr and Testaverde simply weren't cutting it and there was literally NO ONE out there with any kind of experience in a vertical(ish) passing offense. He came in, performed and he's been kept around for that reason, it's not as if we chased him down since college.

4. He's a body for our scouts to play against, he'd still realistically be 3 years away from even serviceable in the NFL. Realistically he's competition and nothing more.

We need an upgrade.

Dude, Matt Moore definitely could be a starting NFL qb on another team right now, I wish he was starting this year, the guy has a Cutler-esque arm, HE CAN GUN THE BALL, I have seen him throw at TC, Fan day, 2007 season, the guys first pass was a 40 yard bomb, TO KEARY COLBERT, if you can make Colbert catch a ball, just imagine what he could do with steve smith, I mean cause lets face it, Colbert couldn't catch swine flu if he was in mexico. Matt Moore is going to be our next quarterback.

Just wanted to point out that Moore was brought in after the final roster cuts as Dallas tried to stash him on the practice squad. So he was here before 'Carr and Tesaverde were not cutting it'. Our scouting team liked him enough to make that move and include him on the roster without him being here for training camp. So I feel your basis on him is off and that he could potentially have a future. Potentially.

You mention we need an upgrade, I posted pointing out, where we going to get that upgrade??? Even if we got a proper star, he may not fit into our system or without players anyway. So there is no guarentee someone elses star is going to make himself a star in our colours.

It's easy to say we need an upgrade. 99% of Panther fans probably feel this way. Finding one though, is not as easy as declaring that as a need. In this game, rosters can't be perfect, there is not the cap room for it. Now considering that superstars at the QB position are exceedingly rare and exceedingly expensive, that would result in us having to cut back on some of the other talent we have on the team - likely in a number of positions. This FO feel that it is better to build a more complete team with depth than getting that one player who is head and shoulders above the rest of the team. Before you mention Peppers, they drafted his replacement a couple of weeks ago. They are ready to let him go if they need to.

Due to the FOs beliefs and that getting a decent calibre QB is a crap shoot, we are stuck with getting the 'best of whats left', which is exactly what Delhomme is. A genuine leader, who puts his heart on his sleeve and will never give up. We have him at middle of the road money, allowing us to invest in building a better team.

Yes we need an upgrade, but at what cost?

Another QB thread??

Oregon,

How dare you question the Panthers strategy of continuing to count on the best statistical qb this league has to offer.

Where is your basis for such a foolish claim?

You cant just write a post like that without a page statistics and sources.

Dont you know that Jake gives us the best chance of winning?!

Did you not know that Jake single handedly lead us to a super bowl years back, just like Rex Grossman did?!

Do you not know that he is more of a come back kid then John Elway ever was?!

Where do you get this baseless analyst from?

Just because all the sport commentators and draft analysts think the Panthers need to be looking for a future qb..that does not make it so.

They know nothing!

Why do you think Jake is so bad?

Just because you watch him play every Sunday?

You don't know what its like to be out there on the field, you don't know how hard it is to read defenses!

You are the lowest of class, a peasant and you are uneducated !!

Obviously, you have never played football, and don't you ever think about coaching either!

Odds are also not in your favor that you will be a professional scout-sorry.

A lot of people are going to be miserable this year. So you might as well accept that Jake will be the starting QB barring injury or very bad play. The FO knows it's time to look for a replacement, so coming here and pissing and moaning about Jake won't speed up the process.
