Otah fails his physical with the Jets ; must pass in 7 days

Wondering if his failed physical was due to his knee not being right or his conditioning.

Doubt they will say though.

James Andrews gave his his knee the OK and said it was structurally sound. And since James Andrews >>>>>> Jet's team doctor, i'm thinking it's probably the conditioning. Factoring in that the trade is still valid, it's probably not something medical.

Jeff Otah, who is in limbo until he passes his physical, said that he’s “close… almost there” physically. The Jets acquired Otah from the Panthers for a conditional seventh-round pick provided that he passes a physical within seven days. Otah said that he expects to compete for the starting right tackle spot with Wayne Hunter if healthy. Otah worked with trainers on the field on Friday.

But in order for Otah to be part of that competition – and for the trade itself to go through – Otah still has to pass a physical. And in his first meeting with reporters Friday after the opening practice of camp here, Otah made it seem like that was far from a lock to happen.

“I don’t know,” he said. “I’m just kind of going and doing what they tell me right now. I’m doing my best.”

The Jets acquired Otah from Carolina for a conditional seventh-round pick Tuesday, only to place him on the active/physically unable to perform list Wednesday because of a lingering left knee issue that Otah says goes back to an injury he suffered during OTAs with the Panthers.

If he can’t pass the physicals in the next six days, the trade will be nullified.

had to get it back stronger,” he said. “I tweaked it in OTAs back in Carolina, so I had to get it back stronger, get the fluid out of there, get back on my feet and get moving around.”
