Rivera expects Bell to start at right tackle (Also other Tidbits)

Recommended Posts

I did read it and I saw what you said about 5 sacks. The penalties were a problem but 5 of the 11 were 5 yard penalties not huge ones and 5 were holding. Surely not good but certainly not as bad as you make them out to be given that he had a number of games with no penalties.

Truth is he wasn't that bad and I showed you a rookie top 10 pick at right tackle who was worse.

And I don't know where Reed gets his info, but you see my source posted.

Bottom line is you were wrong and like a typical huddler you don't admit it.

I can show you others who were better...

Lets forget what Rivera said. Lets forget that by all accounts he did a good job given he was thrust into a starting role without the benefit of playing with the 1s in camp and having an off-season.

He sucks because you said so and he is a just a guy right???

He gave up 5 sacks in 12 starts which was not that many. Sure he had penalties but again that was all part of the learning curve with a rookie thrown into the fire.

He will be much improved this year just because he had 12 starts and has played with the 1s for the better part of the season.

I agree with Rivera in that he will be expected to play this year at a high level whether he starts or rotates in. Either way the only person who thinks he sucks is you. And I take Rivera'a opinion over yours.

Rivera has praised everyone on the the defense last year at one point....they didn't all play extremely well.

and many people think he was below average and a liability last year....that isn't a CRA thought. Like I said, he did pretty good given the scenario....but that doesn't mean it was good.

Bell was bad....he was suppose to be bad. Undrafted kids thrown into the fire are suppose to be abused. Bell was. Maybe he develops. Maybe improves bc of the foundation 2011 was to his learning.....but what Bell did in 2011 at RT was not good RT play.

Scenario/potential is what you choose to spin....his actual play by NFL standards for a RT wasnt good.

Obviously Rivera knows that when you throw a rookie in there as he did, you don't expect miracles especially when he is an UDFA and not a first rounder. You also don't look at just overall numbers but you look for improvement from week to week and a guy who learns as he goes. He knows that you expect your guy to try and hold his own and by the end of the season show improvement and the ability to start in the league.

All of those things happened for Bell which is why Rivera said what he did. What he and I know (which you apparently don't) is that few if any rookies on the offensive or defensive line come in and just play lights out no matter where they are drafted. What we also know is that rookies typically make their biggest leap between year 1 and 2 as their foot and especially their hand technique improve. We also know that it is ridiculous to pronounce a player bad based on their rookie season and that it takes 2 or 3 years for them to come into their own.

Few people said he played well, we said he played well under the circumstances and showed potential for the future. While you said he sucked and will suck in the future and shouldn't start now or in the future. Your view is the extreme fringe view which is refuted by the coach, anyone who knows football, and the history of rookie offensive linemen in the league. He wasn't bad, he was a rookie. There is a big difference which most knowledgeable football fans readily acknowledge.

And that is really all I have to say. If you can't see that there really is little hope to have a rational discussion and your desire to get in the last word and argue at all cost has clouded your judgement,

Well most of my responses are to be who claimed he was great, above average, exceptional, etc. Not that he did good given his particular circumstance.

You seem to ignore the rampant claims of how great he was....that a lot of the Bell "hate" post are following the past 2 days.

I agree with parts of your stance.

Get over yourself. Quit reading article that talks about a player who has been pretty much a bust and they acting like he has potential to be a pro bowler. At this point of his career, he has not proven anything more than Bell.

Just bc he has all the physical attributes you want in a Tackle, it doesn't mean he's better than Bell.

For an UNDRAFTED ROOKIE Bell was very solid last year. He'll do fine, man he's gotta be becoming one of the best feel-good stories in the NFL.

My point is good RT play is good RT play....rookie, vet, drafted or undrafted. Good play at the end of the day isn't determined by if he was an undrafted kid thrown into the fire. Doing good bc of the scenario matters more when looking at what a guy will develop into....not a statement of what he is today.
