The McKenzie Brothers

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

The NFL can very much be a "who you know" business. Thus, in light of our two offseason swaps with the Raiders, I thought I'd check the bio of Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie to see if there was any connection with Panthers GM Marty Hurney.

Turns out there is, though not a direct one.

Hurney and Reggie McKenzie haven't worked together before, but the Redskins employed Raleigh McKenzie - Reggie's twin brother - during Hurney's time under Bobby Beathard. Raleigh was drafted in 1985. Hurney joined the Skins in 1988. Raleigh later followed Beathard/Hurney to San Diego in 1997.

So where's Raleigh now? Turns out he's employed as a scout for a certain AFC West team (three guesses which one).

Does this mean we'll see more back and forth and picking up of each others scraps in the future? Possible. Like I said, the NFL is often a "who you know" business, so it's no stretch to think there could be continued contact with the McKenzie brothers in days to come.

That made my head hurt.

That lets me know I've done well :)

And Biscuit, I haven't checked for a connection between Hurney and the Jets but I will later. Of course, there is an established connection between Ron Rivera and the Ryan family.

Wow, Mr. Scot is like a football historian or something.

Reality is I'm just a guy who likes to know what's going on and knows how to use Google, but that would be too long to put in a user title.

That's the kind of info that I normally expect to see from our resident journalists though.
