At the end of the day did we get better in light of the trades?

Giving up Otah can best be described as bitter sweet. You hate to give up on a guy as talented as Otah but his durability is a liability. Now there is not a question if Otah will be healthy

.Murphy has seemed to fallen out out favor with the Raiders but has the blazing down field speed that we were hoping Gettis was bring this year.sat at the end of the day we made a good moves.

At this point, it's impossible to know. Both players got off to promising starts only to be hampered by injuries. We only hope that Murphy is able to regain his form from his first 2 years, and the Jets are hoping the same thing about Otah. There's a reason both players were traded for a conditional late round pick.

I say yes.

Anytime you can remove a player that is not contributing to the team I count that as a positive. Based on what Jeff had given us over the last two years I don't know why anyone would reasonably expect that things were going to change in the near future. The only thing he did for us over the last 2 years was make promises his body or his heart wouldn't keep.

He may turn out to be a productive player for the Jets and if so, good for him.

No hate but good riddance.

Murphy's cap hit is 1.26 million. Otah's cap hit is 1.6 million after we dumped his 1.1 million salary (down from 2.7 million) so we took on around 1.1 million in cap hit to pick up Murphy and dump Otah. I guess it depends how they play before we know if it was worth it or not.

Actually good offensive linemen are more important than good wide receivers. Otah was pretty good at one point in his career but not so much now. Murphy is serviceable at best and replaces an injured player so its not like the Panthers added depth. Murphy is a sexy acquisition on paper but the offense of line is the nuts and bolts of the offense. Hopefully for Panther fans it will hold up.

God I am so glad football isn't analysed through Madden.

I will miss the healthy Otah but since we saw him more at the Golden Corral buffet line than our offensive line. I am ok with the move.

I thought I saw someone post Gettis is on the PUP. If so, this is exactly the type of WR I figured we would pick up. No Big name just alot of promise. Good Luck Murphy

Well it was not a three team trade. We were not required to trade Otah to obtain Murphy. So we got Murphy for essentially nothing and we had probably been looking for a wideout since Jacoby Jones got overpaid signed with Baltimore over us.

The Raiders are loaded at receiver with players who have a similar skill set so its not a huge deal that they dumped their oldest one(even with only 3 years experience) that new new regime saw decline last year.

Murphy is not that injury prone. He played in his first 32 games in the league and was the best wide receiver on his team those years in every statistical way. Last year he missed the first 5 games but still played in the final 11 but never got much of a chance as Hue Jackson was the new head coach last year.

Dumping Otah for a 7th round pick speaks volume of the way we looked at him, because unlike the Raiders we are not stacked with talent at RT.

Remember when Rivera cut Everette Brown? The stated reason was that we already had a guy who cost less to pay, that did the same sort of thing (wicked quick first step, got manhandled with contact) in Eric Norwood. After acquiring Campbell, we essentially have the same guy as Otah, ridiculous potential, but needs to get his ass on the field. If Otah managed to play all year and dominate, we'd either have to pay him a fat contract (due to him being a 1st rounder) or let him leave for nothing - neither are good for us. If Campbell gets everything together and overtakes Bell's spot we can keep him for longer for less.

Since Gettis is going on the PUP, the murphy trade makes total sense. Assuming we didn't give up much for him, I'd say it was a good trade. We need that trifecta of Stud receiver (smith), possession/blocker (Lafell) and speedster (Gettis/Murphy). I'd rather they slowly work out Gettis and make damn sure that knee is bulletproof than going through another Thomas Davis incident. Yes Welker tore his ACL and was able to recover and play football in a pretty short time, but you gotta remember that Welker is a battle hardened football vet. Gettis is still very new to the game - he didn't play much in college and played one year of NFL football. He comes from a track background which doesn't place much stress on hard cuts like the NFL does, so you can't really expect his body to emphasize recovering the same way a guy like Welker's body will.
