So... Is Bell the starter now?

I'm guessing Campbell will be the starter by week 1. Just a hunch. Bell wasn't "ok" last year. He wasn't "not bad", he wasn't "average", he wasn't even "below average". He was awful. I don't care that he played better than an UDFA should play or whatever other mantra the Bell fanboys are reciting. Sure he seems like a swell guy, and I'll surely root for him to improve enough to earn a spot, but there's no way he should be starting unless he improves greatly from what he showed last year. I'm guessing he'll improve enough to be a solid backup for now and possibly enough in the long run to be a decent starter, but it would take a much greater than average improvement for him to be an NFL starting quality player. More was asked of him than he had the talent to handle, and no one should hold that against him, but he still played awful and the bottom line is I don't want the guy that played so bad last year starting this year. He only starts if he's no longer that guy, and made an unprecedented improvement.

Bell is the starter. Rivera has gone out of his way to praise Bell's performance last year several different times in interviews. They really do like Byron Bell a lot at RT. And for those who say he wasn't good last year, well, you don't have a top-5 offense with a right tackle that's 'not good.'

And again, he was a rookie. He'll get better. Last year was more or less pure talent; he'll continue to develop and learn better technique and will improve. Plus, you know, actually being healthy is a big plus as well.

So Bell is good bc Cam is good?

Legatron was awesome too then, right.

Apples & oranges. Cam can't throw if he's being pressured from Bell's side on every play. I'm not saying Bell is great, but he's solid and still young and will get better. I don't think he'll be any worse than average, IMO.

I mean, worst case scenario we have a below average RT for a year and draft/sign a long-term option in the offseason. But honestly, I think Bell is the answer.

He was good in the sense he was an undrafted free agent starting in the NFL but was not a good RT in the NFL They may think he can become good.

He's good enough that we can win with him is basically what I'm trying to say.

Few teams have elite RT's anyway. Most tend to be late round picks/UDFA's and cheap FA's.

He is also "good" enough to get our franchise QB hurt and stall drives with poor play.

Bell is also of the Otah mold....looks to fit the old Fox offense better than this one.

Bell struggled at times, but he showed improvement and wasn't as bad as some here are making him out to be. He was awful at the start of the season, but by the end he was pretty reliable.

Really, I think early on one game have him legendary status....and then he consistantly showed he why he was undrafted.

Then Rivera would take a motivational jab at Otah and people would run with it thinking there eyes played tricks on them and Bell wasn't something more

I think the coaches might know more about how good Bell is or isn't in comparison to Otah than we do.

Just saying...

They have their reasons no doubt...but if Otah could of gotten on the field this one season....Bell isn't even in the ballpark.

Front office also throught extending Delhomme was smart despite their being glaring reasons why it wasn't....as an example. We also tend to lose more than win which is a sign we don't always make the right call
