Jeff Otah traded to the Jets

Thomas Davis also gives a fug about football.

Nailed it.

Rivera let us know in his own way that Otah was not doing what was expected. It doesn't matter how much talent the guy has or what round he was picked in if he doesn't care about playing.

I will not be the least bit surprised if we never see that 7th round pick, as Otah may not make it out of camp for the Jets.

Well, at least we won't be in a situation where Otah plays well next year, we let him walk for nothing based on injury concerns and everyone says "WE SHOULD HAVE TRADED OTAH!!!"

Or he plays well, we resign him, then he goes back on IR for his whole contract. Then everyone says "WHY DID WE RESIGN HIM!!"

The only other option is that he is never hurt again and becomes one of the greatest right tackles in the league. I think that is the least likely of the three options so, screw it, I'm on board with this.

Dang accidently gave u pie, but wat i'm trying to say is that basically we're trading away "trash" that might have something valuable inside if you look deep enough for "trash" that will remain trash forever no matter what.

The psychic powers are strong with this one. How, pray tell, do you know that any future pick gotten from this trade will be used to pick up trash that will never develop? I would much rather trade Otah now for something, ANYTHING, with potential, even in the slightest, than let him sit around all year while playing two games and we don't resign him afterwards. This was a contract year for him, he wasn't going to be around after this year anyhow. At least this way we get something for him.

not to mention that bell going into camp as the possible starter is a preferable alternative to bell working with the twos all through TC/preseason => otah inevitably gets injured => bell gets thrown out there again with a group he hasn't been working with.

What does this have to do with Davis? And a 7th round pick was better than cutting him and getting nothing.

The Otah hate is off the charts bc of games missed to injury....

We have no RTs and he was cheap. He was worth a 1 yr more on the roster.

Not if they didn't have confidence that he would be able to see the field, or that he had any desire to do so to begin with. Why keep him around just to take up a spot on the bench, or inactive list every week? Use the spot on a developmental player. The rationale to keep him makes no sense, given the obvious misgivings about him from the coaches and FO.

When we don't have guys like Clausen or Edwards taking up and wasting spots....then you can moan about talent wasting spots

It was clear that Otah was not injured. That's where people get there hate for Otah from. Also he had about just as much chance starting this year as peppers coming back to Carolina two years ago.

feel free to link us to your post where you said "otah will be traded before training camp starts"

Somewhere in the numerous Otah topics i've often said i wasn't sold on Jeff as being the guy at right tackle. BTW i was the guy suggesting the Panthers draft an offensive tackle with the 9th pick just in case Otah turned out to be a bumb and, AND Gross isn't getting any younger but feel free to question my football knowledge and i'll continue to smile when i'm right, as usual.
