The NCAA Dropkicks Penn State

And you are the Sandusky of Pizza Inn

Great pizza. All you can eat. I defy thee to think of two better phrases.

On second thought, I take that back. You live for challenges like this. Carry on. Nothing to see here.

And Hatter, seriously, you aren't going to win here. I understand what you're saying. But you're on a liberal board. Facts is facts.

Well it could have been worse. Much worse...

If Penn State had not accepted the package of NCAA sanctions announced Monday, the Nittany Lions faced a historic death penalty of four years, university president Rodney Erickson told "Outside the Lines" on Wednesday afternoon.

In a separate interview, NCAA president Mark Emmert confirmed that a core group of NCAA school presidents had agreed early last week that an appropriate punishment was no Penn State football for four years.

....

Erickson said if Penn State did not agree to the sanctions, a formal investigation would have begun and the university could have faced a multiyear death penalty, as well as "other sanctions," including a financial penalty far greater than $60 million.

Also, there may be some strife b/w the board of trustee members and the president....this could get uglier

Erickson's comments were made Wednesday afternoon, shortly before he was scheduled to meet with Penn State's Board of Trustees about the terms of the consent decree he signed with the NCAA. Several trustees said they are furious the board was not given a chance to vote on the agreement, which they say is bad for Penn State.

Erickson said his insistence that Penn State must avoid the death penalty was driven in large part with worry over the devastating economic impact of no Saturday afternoon football in central Pennsylvania and the words of newly hired coach Bill O'Brien.

O'Brien said in an interview Wednesday that he told Erickson, "I want to play football and I want to play football on television."

....

Some trustees said they are considering a bid to overturn the consent decree in court because they don't believe Erickson had the authority to sign it. Erickson consulted with board chairwoman Karen Peetz, acting AD Dave Joyner and several other unnamed members of the board's executive committee, he said Wednesday.

Nice. Let's blackmail a university with threats of a 4 year death penalty. I understood the need to punish the school even though it effected players and coaches who had nothing to do with it. But they way they got PSU to agree to it just seems shady.

But you said to Husker

So.... neither have you

I have never talked to him, but my in-laws have. I am basing my opinion from their comments and opinion of the man. As I said, I may be completely wrong and the guy is a sadistic and uncaring SOB. But, I have people who I trust that know the man. Gives me a little more confidence that I am probably right that someone who hated the program and Paterno before any of this happened...i.e. Husker.

That's interesting logic.

I've thought for years that Paterno was a selfish creep and that Penn State was one of the strangest, most delusional places in the country. Turns out I've been proven absolutely correct on both accounts.

And this strengthens your position again how?

Your thoughts have NOT turned out to be correct....you just believe they did.

You have no idea what Paterno knew or intended.

Did he know that Sandusky was doing what he did?

What was he told by McQuery (we still do not know this as McQuery has changed his story no less than 4 times and the jury did not even believe him.....one of two counts that Sandusky was not convicted of)?

Did he intentionally cover up horrific crimes to save the reputation of himself and the university?

You and I still do not know the answers to these questions.

You assume that he knew and covered it up. And, you may very well be correct. However, you may also be incorrect in your assumption of his intent.

He very well may have truly believed that the incidents were misunderstandings and believed Sandusky's lies. This does not excuse his inactions (as their decision was VERY wrong). However, it does go a long way to motives, intent....something that you claim to know that he intentionally did.

As for selfish for staying.....Bowden was doing the same thing at FSU. The University had to fire him to get him to leave. You have no idea as to his motives for continuing to coach. The guy loved PSU and loved coaching. He was getting a great salary to do what he loved. I would not expect someone to leave as long as that were true.

He very well may have been staying to get the record. Or, he very well may have stayed becuase he loved what he did. Again, you THINK that you know his intentions. Yet, again, you are just talking out of your ass.

I don't expect anyone to change their minds because I have talked to people that knew the man. You think their views are biased. Just the same way that I believe a person's opinion who has himself said that hated the progam and coach for years is completely biased and irrelevant.
