The NCAA Dropkicks Penn State

Why on Earth would you not have done the right thing here?

I still can't get my arms around this whole thing.

I am still interested in exactly what McQuery told them. I don't believe anything that guy says. He says he witnessed something horrific and did not go to the police. He continued to be part of Sandusky's charity. His story changed 4 times. The jury in the trial did not even believe his testimony....the one charge that Sandusky was acquired of.

I still can't fathom that he told Paterno/Curley/etc that he saw JS raping a boy and they did nothing. Maybe they did, but I just find that do hard to get my head around. More likely that he told them he saw/heard something that appeared wrong...Sandusky lied as usual...and they let their concern for the reputation of the program cloud their judgement.

This does not excuse their inaction. Any accusation if abuse that involves a school or teacher/coach MUST be immediately turned over to the authorities.

The PSU family made a grave error in judgement that lead to the continued abuse. However, I still din't believe the knowingly and intentionally covered up for a pedophile that they believed was abusing kids.

But, they should have never made that choice. Should have let the authorities Di their job.

This is something that has been bothering me, but prestige and popularity cloud peoples judgement all the time.

I just struggle to think that Joe Pa could have gone home to his kids, and grand kids knowing what was going on in the background.

It certainly seems like he did though.

I still can't believe that they knew and did nothing. It is just do unbelievably wrong and monstrous. I still believe they just did not want to believe it and convinced themselves that it was not true. They prob bought the story that JD was telling.

Because if they really knew what was going on and still chose to let it continue, they are as evil as Sandusky himself.

My wife's family knows him personally, and they keep saying that there is no way he KNEW and turned a blind eye.

That means absolutely nothing to me, and it shouldn't to anyone else. Almost every single time that someone does something completely fuged up and unexpected those around him are shocked and have a hard time believing that they were capable of such things. It's just a psychological system, you don't want to believe that you could associate with someone so rotten and not realize it.

But neither you nor I nor anyone else here knows what he really knew. That is my point.

Maybe he did know and chose to cover it up. That us hard for me to fathom. But, it may be true.

However, he could have really believed it was not true and allowed his concern for the program to cloud his judgement. We will never know.

It does not change the outcome of the situation...their inaction led to the horrific abuse if other kids.

I am only speculating on intent and motive.

I agree that we don't know, but using someone saying "Well I know him and I don't believe that he could blah blah blah" as some sort of evidence for the way that you perceive the events is flawed logic. That was my only point.

the tragic part is the football team and the kids who have NOTHING to do with the insdious crimes, are the ones that lose the most. however, the diabolical coverup by the higher ups, is the only reason it is so severe. the nuke option had to happen here.

The prestige of your football team is one of the reasons it was covered up.

It's more hypothetical....no more football ever and those kids never being molested vs what you have today

Would you trade your Catholic religion/faith for these hundreds or thousands of kids not to have been harmed?

The prestige of Catholicism is one of the reasons it was covered up.

Of course FB, Twitter, etc...won't be blowing up with people demanding that the Catholic Church be shut down. ARREST THE POPE NOW!!!!!

http://www.cnn.com/2....html?hpt=hp_t2

The trial marked the first time U.S. prosecutors have charged not just the priests who allegedly committed abuses but also church leaders for failing to stop them. Lynn is the highest-ranking cleric accused of covering up allegations of molestation and rape against priests by transferring them to unwitting parishes.

Not really trying to use it as evidence. Just hits close to home with me.

What say you Panthro? Are you ready to shut down the church? Are you ready to dig up the past Popes and piss on their decaying bodies?

What the Catholic Church did was 1,000X worse that the PSU leaders. Senior members of the church not only should have known, but they had actual evidence of abuse and covered this up for decades. Hundreds, if not thousands, of kids were abused, and the Church turned its back on all of them.

The Freeh report made it clear that higher-ups like Paterno and Admin et al DID in fact, know about what was happening and chose the "church" of Penn State football over doing what was right.

So did the Catholic church.

So to say that what the church did was 1000X worse than what PSU did rings hollow with me.

Why? Because less boys were abused?

One is too many, and a coverup is horrible. Deliberately burying one's head in the sand and doing nothing, essentially allowing it to continue to happen is reprehensible.

So yeah, not really feeling any love, sorry.

I'm feeling bad about being a Big 10 homer, and have been feeling that way since this story broke.
