Ok Could Use Some Huddle Advice...

So I'm filling out a job app when the question comes up asking have you ever been terminated or asked to resign from a job, and if so, explain the circumstances.

Thing is, I have been fired from a job I had all of two weeks (thread about it with details) last year.

Normally, I don't include it on my resumes or applications, mainly because of the advice I got from career services (it was ok to exclude it, but be transparent about it). I'm starting to think that if companies check on my employment record and found that, it could explain why I'm unemployed right now.

If I do put down that I got fired, it could (from their perspective) suggest I'm a thief or unreliable. If I don't put it, but later on it comes up, I'm a liar.

My main dilemma: report it and face reduced chances for an interview or a job, or don't put it and risk them finding out about it and getting fired or not considered for the job?

Got advice from my mother and a family friend to not put it down, but I had another friend tell me that could get me a misdemeanor (along with termination) if it was discovered.

I'm pretty desperate for employment, but my conscious is really bothering me this time for even considering lying. I want to be honest and forthright, but what say you huddle?

I've worked over 30 jobs in my lifetime. In my resume, I have all but 6 jobs. I don't use the ones I've gotten either fired or quit. Any that I lasted more than a year I do keep. Which is why I only have 6 on my resume. It's even harder because when I used those jobs here in Mexico, they were unimpressed in most places because it's a different country. I'm sure you won't have that problem, moral of the story. Like Arsen said. Unnecessary information is not needed. Cut the fat out.

Don't put it down. Putting it down might keep you from getting an interview. Unless you are applying for a job in the CIA or something the only thing they will check for is a criminal record and that is only if they have decided to hire you. Once you get hired they will never look into your past again.

How would not putting down a job you have for 2 weeks get you a misdemeanor?

Friend told me that her brother got one for lying on the application.

This is more of a moral decision for me and finding that balancing act. I'll probably end up not telling them anything about it but if it comes up (if they find out) I'll explain it then.

Just to make it clear: I don't have anything relating to the job on my resume at all. Waste of space

Unless it shows large chunks of unemployed time, that will raise a red flag.

I do have gaps in my employment history, but I was in school, so I'm not worried about that part.

As an employer, I'd be mighty pissed if I found out that someone had omitted information on a resume or an application. My anger would be mitigated however if that person had been a employee in good standing for a good period of time.

Went back and read the thread... fired over a missing $20 in a probationary period is not a huge issue.

I would say leave it off... get the job and bust your ass and give them no reason to question you.

Don't put it down.

Very few employers have the time or resources to do the kind of full background check that would turn up a job that you had for two weeks. As biscuit above me recommends, once you get the job work your ass off and give them no reason to ever think about your app again.
