Man of Steel

The 1978 Superman movie is easily the best one made so far. But that really isnt saying much as all the sequels, along with the 2006 movie were trash. I love Supes, so I'll be seeing it on day one. But I'm really not expecting much.

The funny thing is that Superman should be the easiest movie to make. It's pretty damn straight forward. But every executive wants their stamp on the movie rather than drawing from the source material, so they end up sucking. That has been the downfall of literally every comic book movie that has been poo. I can just picture some Fox exec with his feet up on the table saying "Deadpool needs a cool gimmick like Wolverine. Give him swords for hands, that'll sell some toys."

Nolan's films are only going to exacerbate the problem, because they have almost nothing at all to do with any comic and he basically took the characters and set them in his own world. Now every Bret Ratner whose main experience is directing Mariah Carey videos is gonna think they can do the same thing instead of paying credence to the stories that have been around for 70 years.

i still feel like nolan's films stayed true to the source material. it may not have been a verbatim translation, but he hit all the high notes with the characters pretty well

unlike spidey not having web shooters

I always thought pulling a good superman movie off today would be challenging because he’s such an optimist. He really doesn’t have many weaknesses and always stands for what’s right. Which I can understand seeing as when he was created that’s what people needed to see during difficult times but this younger generation is filled with cynics that gravitate towards realism and gore. They basically want everything Superman isn’t lol.

But maybe a story that focuses on his humanity first will work out well this time.

I wish they'd have given us a little more in this, but I am very encouraged by the tone of the trailer. Definitely seems to be a more down to earth style to it, which is going to be tricky given the source material, but if it can be pulled off it'll be great.

The trailer from Comic-Con gives us more, its longer than this one. There's some cell phone of it around on net but Warner Bros takes it down whenever they find it.
