Beason played the weak side ok, but he is stellar in the middle. Kuechly is just a very solidfootball player. He will flourish regardless of weak or middle. I think he will end up better than Beason, but because he is so athletic and injury free he will be best served as our weak side backer. Kuechly's coverage skills will strengthen our LB corps from the weak side. I find it funny how analyst forget just good Beason was in coverage. Anderson should start over Davis because of his durability. He isn't an All Pro backer but he is solid. In my opinion, Davis should be better served as a spark and on third and long replacing Anderson. Kuechly Beason & Davis on third down against this quarterback happy conference would be pretty amazing. They would really help our secondary underneath.

I think our base 4-3 will be Kuechly - Beason - Anderson. Though with Beason still recovering from injury I could see Luke sliding over and playing some Mike and Davis coming in and sharing time with Beason. That is of course if Beason needs to take some plays off. Actually, it might be smarter to play Luke at Mike and let Beason and Davis rotate at Will.

Beason was only okay at OLB bc he moved there at the last minute....freelanced and wasnt comfortable.

Beason can play OLB at a high level if prepped properly. Plus Beason probably needs to be protected from himself....he and TD rotating at WLB could be smart early.

I can't imagine a scenario where a rookie earns the MLB spot away from one of the top 5 MLBs in the game. If Kuechly ends up inside, it likely won't be for that reason, but because he couldn't hack it at OLB yet and needed to be put in his comfort zone rather than trying to cover NFL level TEs and WRs.

All of this would be valid if Beason was 100% healthy. The reality is, he isn't, and that is why it makes more sense to put Luke in the middle.

Well, why is it so easy to imagine a team selecting one of the best MLB prospects in the last decade.....and not playing him at MLB?

Luke has the skill set to project to be better than Beason at MLB. Luke is the ideal MLB candidate....Beason moving to OLB isn't a knock on him.

Claiming the only way Luke plays MLB is bc he sucks at OLB.... I leaves out a lot on rational thoughts about the LB spot in Carolina

I look at it this way. Most everyone can agree Beason is a top 5 MLB ( top 2 IMO) and Kuechly has the "potential" to be a to in the top 5.

Now as far as the outside position goes, Kuechly has the "potential" to be a top 5 guy. While I think Beason falls out of that category.

IMO Kuechly as the WILL and Beason as the MIKE would be getting the best out of both players.

Who would you rather have in coverage,on Jimmy Graham? Beason or Kuechly?

Davis hurt his leg early I'm camp. Beason had plenty of time to learn the position...its really no different now, if he's been playin MIKE through out OTAs and mini-camp then they decide to switch him early on in TC. Beason just isn't the same player at WLB and that's not a knock on him. I actually think Davis (when healthy) is better WLB than Beason could be.

    • What I really learned here is that the Carolina Panthers aren't anywhere near as bad as I initially thought they were earlier this year.  We've got a young and growing offense with some promising parts. But it still needs some tweaks and improvements.  We really still could still use a dominant #1 WR. But Chubba,  Legette, Coker,  and J.Sanders have generally looked decent. Bryce took a big leap after the benching. We can score enough points to keep pace with 2x defending super bowl champions, so offense isn't a huge issue. Main thing that needs improvement is defense. We sorely need a CB 2, and a number of new players at Dline and LB.  We're not quite as bad at edge with Wonnum showing promise.  But we definitely need 1 or 2 more edges Clowney is old.  Run D is probably worse prevailing theme these past couple years. We really need a good young stud or two to pair with Derrick Brown and another LB to pair up with Trevin Wallace. If Morgan and Canales can focus on rebuilding the defense this off-season and possibly going out and getting a #1 WR. This team could easily be somewhere around 7-10 to 10-7 and flirting with playoffs in 1 or 2 seasons. Overall this game has made me feel alot more positive about the direction of the team.
    • With our picks we need pass rush, lb, Safety, a speedster yac wr, o line depth and I still want a mid round qb. We got 9 picks and 8 in the first 5 rounds. If they pull Off another solid draft we be cooking.
    • We had one passing touchdown against the Giants and one passing touchdown against the Chiefs today. Yes a good backup can replicate that. And that is why Andy Dalton in significantly less games has the same number of 30 point outings as Bryce Young. I am on board with you guys about wanting to be hopeful for the future. Today was a good performance to build on especially at home. But let's please keep things in perspective. BTW the Bucs who honestly aren't even that good blew the doors off the Giants today after we went to overtime against them with 17 points. Again. Perspective.
