NFL's 10 Highest-Paid Running Backs

Going back and talking about what a RB did 4 yrs ago doesn't mean that much....

It also starts the comparison with a RB peaking one season in his prime vs a rookie.....which is tremendously flawed when looking big picture.

....if you continuous pimp the PFF stat it means you believe it. Which means you think LaGarette Blount has emerged as one of the top pass protecting RBs in the NFL....and believe that would make even a TB fan worthy of a mental institution

Let's put some more illumination on this DWill vs Stewart debate.

In spite of playing in fewer games (you know, because he is so injury prone), DWill has more yards per touch, and more TD's than Stewart.

Let's look at the numbers (all data from 2008 through 2011, the only years they both played):

DWill has 4398 yards with 35 TD's in 51 games, in which he had 809 touches for a 5.44 average per touch.

Stew has 4202 yards with 29 TD's in 62 games, in which he had 806 touches for a 5.21 average per touch.

Add to that, Stewart was just named the worst pass blocking RB for the last 3 years per Pro Football Focus.

Stewart is younger. Stewart is cheaper. Stewart is not better.

so at 5.7 ypt....mcfadden is a better rb than williams?

i don't think you can get anyone to buy than idea.

Lol did you even care to look at the game Stewart returned from his concussion? Goodson had 14 carries to Stewart's 12 carries...how that translates to Stewart carrying the load is beyond me...but yeah he had his highest YPC average in that game so I see why you would want to use that one. Obviously Fox was easing Stewart back into the game there, he wasn't "throwing Goodson a bone" after he just had 20+ carries in back-to-back weeks.

i did watch the game...that's how i know the official starter was whoever's name is on the paper versus the actual starter in the game. stewart carried the load that game. in the end, it simply reinforces that stewart excels when he's not splitting with williams.

Of course I brought up stats since you decided to make an argument based on zero substance...I still have yet to hear from you how Stewart has proven he can carry a full workload. You simply said that he has, and that was the extent of your argument. All you've done is take my entire argument, point out one detail in support of that argument that you disagreed with, and completely ignore the rest. Instead of coming up with your own original thoughts on the subject, all you're doing is shooting down other thoughts using faulty logic. So you think if Williams/Stewart were the featured backs on two different teams that they'd both be top 5? My argument is that you can't measure those 2 backs' successes individually...they've thrived off working as a duo thus far. Not to say that they couldn't be the featured backs on a team...but there is no way you could say they'd be top 5 working alone since neither has been given a full workload for even a single season.

your argument has about as much substance as mine. everyone and their grandma outside of the huddle is convinced that both backs would be top 5 backs if they were featured on different teams.

you can't measure williams's individual success because he's never been in a position to do so...since, as some would call "injury prone", stewart has yet to miss any significant time for him to fill in.

stewart, on the other hand, does have measureables that cannot be ignored. back to the ypc stat that everyone loves...he averages 4.6 ypc in games the he and williams have played in together...5.4 in games where williams never set foot on the field.

stewart doesn't need williams to be successful. we have yet to see williams prove he can do it without stewart.

So, for those that think Stewart is so much better than DWill, what data do you have to back up your argument?

And no, "I like his stiff arm" or "He is a beast" are not the kind of data I'm talking about.

Next two seasons Williams will be playing at 29 and 30 yrs old

Next two seasons Stewart will be playing at 25 and 26 yrs old.

So statistically, Stewart will be in his idea years....and Williams won't. Even RBs who were decent at 30 weren't in their prime then.

Apply common sense and look at NFL history. They have been deemed comparable when Williams peaked and Stewart was a young and green player.

Not about the past. Williams isn't the 2008 guy going forward

well, the real question is who will be better going forward....not who has been better.

If you use this idea you can't say Steve Smith is a top 5 wr then

Well what matters in terms of future success for a team is what a player will do....not has done. Smitty plays WR...so even when he isn't a top 5 WR he can transition into more of a role player and still be a key asset. Smitty can be a #2 once he no longer is elite.

Nah....you getting off track.

What it means is....who would you rather sign a big deal today with...Megatron or Smith. Who can be better longer from this day forward

Idk but Williams is a top 15 rb

If you doubled his carries that's 310 carries 1672 yds and 14tds
