Possible Preseason Cuts at DT

Recommended Posts

A lot of people who are Panther fans and understand the Panther organization believe we will bring in a player that gets cuts from another team before the start of our season. With 8Mil in cap room and the recent 4 game suspension of Andre Neblett, this is even more of a possibility.

With this in mind, I put together a list of DT's that likely won't make the final roster cut. Can anyone spot the diamond in the rough?

Arizona - none

Atlanta - Vance Walker, Travian Robertson, Carton Powell, Regis Micanor

Baltimore - DeAngelo Tyson, Ma'ake Kemoeatu, Ryan McBean, Bryan Hall

Buffalo - Kellen Heard, Lionel Dotson, Jarron Gilbert, Jay Ross

Chicago - Jordan Miller, Nate Collins

Cincinnati - Pat Sims, Brandon Thompson, Nick Hayden, Vaughn Meatoga

Cleveland - *Phil Taylor, Kiante Tripp

Dallas - Josh Brent, Robert Calloway

Denver - Mith Unrein, Sealver Siliga, Ben Garland

Detroit - Andre Fluellen

Greenbay - Daniel Muir, Johnny Jones

Houston - None

Indianapolis - Ollie Ogbu

Jacksonville - D'Anthony Smith, Jeris Pendletion, Corvey Irvin, Odrick Ray

Kansas - Amon Gordon, Anthony Toribio

Miami - Isaako Aaitui, Ryan Baker

Minnesota - Fred Evans

New England - Ron Brace, Marcus Harrison

New Orleans***** - Tom Johnson, Swanson Miller

New York G - Rocky Bernard, Marcus Kuhn, Dwayne Hendricks

New York J - Martin Tevaseu

Oakland - Travis Ivey, Jamie Cumbie

Philadelphia - Antonio Dixon, Cedric Thornton, Tevita Finau

Pittsburgh - Steve McLendon, Kade Weston

San Diego - Charlie Bryant

San Francisco - Ian Williams

Seattle - Jaye Howard, Clint McDonald, Pep Levingston

St. Louis - Jermelle Cudjo, Cornell Banks

Tampa Bay - Frank Okam, John McCargo, DeMario Pressley, Daniel Te'o-Nesheim

Tennessee - Sen'Derrick Marks, Leger Douzable, Lamar Divens, DaJohn Harris, Zach Clayton

Washington - Chris Baker, Kentwan Balmer

Now of course, these are my own personal projections and training camps/preseason can change these. But, these are my estimations as to who will be cut. (A lot of old Carolina Panther players in this mix!)

What say you? Who will it be? (Feel free to let me know if you think I am wrong)

*Phil Taylor should not be on this list. He will probably be put on IR not cut.

i find it very hard to believe the browns would cut phil taylor but if so i'd pick him up

Cleveland is in an interesting spot. With Ahtyba Rubin, Scott Paxton, John Hughes, Brian Schaefering and Billy Winn all expecting to contribute this year.

Taylor, who recently had surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle, is not expected to be back until the end of October. He is a very young talent, and I believe they would be very dumb to release him. But, they say he could be cut or put on IR

Are you really that knowledgable about the NFL that you can gage the skill levels of every teams' 5th-8th string DTs? Not trying to be rude or anything (maybe you really are that knowledgable), but I think even top-notch NFL analysts would have a tough time forming opinions on all these players. Just as I'm sure most non-Panthers fans have no idea who Andre Neblett is...I don't see why Panthers fans would know most of these names. I have enough trouble gaging our own talent at DT. I watch games purely for entertainment value, not as a scout, so my eyes aren't usually on the d-line during games, and if so, then I'm usually either watching Charles Johnson or Greg Hardy since they're the most exciting players on that d-line. Otherwise, I'm usually focused on the opposing QB in anticipation of the pass. Obviously I want to know how good our players are though, so I would LIKE to be able to watch the d-line...but there is just so much happening on the field at once that it's hard to take everything in. That's why I'm strongly considering getting that NFL Rewind thing so I can go back and watch every match-up on the field.

But my sole opinion on the matter is that I agree with the comment about Phil Taylor...he was a 1st round draft pick just last year, no way the Browns are giving up on him even if he were to miss the entire season.

I'm not sure if any of these guys are better than who we have already and Neblett will only be out for 4 games. OTA's and Preseason will be the determining factor as to what we do at the DT position. Although it's my guess that we won't do anything... Not my want, but my guess.

It is not very hard to look up teams rosters and player stats/draft position/number of players at that position. Common sense says that teams that have 10 listed DT's are going to cut a few. Teams that run a 3-4 will carry 1 or 2 less. Using that, current stats/draft position/age, you can predict who will not make it. Again, please feel free to point out anyone you think I was wrong about.

I am already sorry I added Phil Taylor to that mix, even when he will probably be out all year recovering from surgery. The Cleveland just has so many solid players at that position.

You have a couple ridiculous names on that list that are going to see a lot of PT this year for their team. Is that just your wishful thinking
