Should we have let D-will walk

  1. 1. Should we have let Deangelo Williams leave via free agency last year?

Am I crazy or do I remember seeing Gantt say we could turn it into a 3 year deal with little penalty against the cap?

Does anyone know what he counted against the cap in 11? his base salaries mean nothing, just that 21 mil that was guaranteed is all that is relevant if we cut him. I would love to know how much of the guaranteed money has already hit the cap and how much is left. Can anyone find a full breakdown? (not roto worlds snap shot but rather a written in depth breakdown)

Nothing guaranteed for Williams after this year...which I didn't know.

One look at Williams' five-year, $43 million contract, Cam Newton's involvement in the running game (70 designed running plays in 2012, including 33 in the red zone, according to Football Outsiders Almanac 2012) and the arrival of Mike Tolbert on a four-year, $10 million contract this offseason casts doubt over Stewart's long-term future with the team, but a return is not impossible.

After this season, none of the three years and $18 million remaining on Williams' is guaranteed. With Williams turning 30 next April, the Panthers could release the older back and go with Stewart, who doesn't turn 26 until next March.

Great find, feel better now?

Dwill is a great back. give him the carries that the other "top backs " get and he will be up there with all of them. giiven the ball Dwill will on average give you 5 yards a pop, which is great. alot of "better" backs cant say that. he is worth the money not just on the field but just a great team player and a good guy to have around. i am very happy the panthers paid him what he got he is very deserving

Where's the option to vote for - A contract offer on par for a 29 year old RB who splits carries, ended the two previous years on IR, and is a 2 down back

He missed 3 games in 2009, and still ran for over 1100 yards.

I also do not understand this 2 down back stuff. It's not because Stew is the better pass blocker, because he isn't. It's also not because DWill can't catch, because he can. Coming into last year, he was viewed as our pass catching back, not Stewart.

I am not anti-Stewart, I love the guy. And I get that many think we overpaid DWill, and we may have. But don't petty up the argument by throwing out nonsense about some lack on DWill's part.

But don't petty up the argument by throwing out nonsense about some lack on DWill's part. What is untrue? The fact that he is 29 which is considered old for the RB position? That he splits carries? His role has been reduced? He is injury prone? He is paid like a Franchise RB?

Williams was an every down RB in an offense that would run on 3rd and long....

Rivera/Chud clearly showed this year in a real offense....Williams doesn't handle some of the other roles that well and was primarily a 2 down RB.

S, CB, DE, DT.....need players everywhere.

RR has stated several times that DT wasn't a priority and by his actions, he believes that to be the case.

CB- we just drafted, Norman this year and Hogan, last year( basically a rookie) then we have Cap and Butler. Our #2 and our nickback will come from this group.

S- They brought in Smith and Nakamura to compete for the job and drafted Campbell for added depth.

DE- behind CJ and Hardy you got Alexander who we just drafted, Tucker FA, you also have Applewhite and Kaiser for extra depth (left a few off).

So again WHO and WHAT positions?

We absolutely made the right move by resigning D-Will, RB rotations increase longevity of the players by a good bit. That said, we absolutely overpaid looking at the contracts top RB's are getting this year. Meh oh well, glad we still have him and I have faith that Hurney knows what he's doing...

It is all potential....still a lack of real players. Some may work out... some won't.

I mean suggesting a team that rarely has won....is good at those positions just ain't realistic. We are an injury away from being fugged in many aspects
