It's really DeAngelo 21 guaranteed vs. Rice 25 guaranteed, the rest is irrelevant.

Love or hate DeAngelo's contract, it's a done deal - no use lamenting it or praising it now.

Seems some people who have an ax to grind refuse to see that guaranteed money is all that matters and that Williams is likely not to see the last 20 million of his contract. Just like Haynesworth when he had a supposed 100 million dollar contract but saw less than half of it. Same as Brees. It is a 5 year 100 million contract but honestly is a 3 year deal where he won't see the last 2 years of the contract where the money is much higher.

unlike brees and hanesworth, williams will have collected more than his $21m guaranteed simply by being on the roster in 2012...that's just 2 years into his contract.

21 guaranteed was too much....and how he impacts the cap.

Rice is younger, a true featured RB and a teams offense..... and NFL Sirius was talking all morning that they overpaid.

How is that different than Brees collecting more than 40 million by being on the roster in 2012?? Haynesworth collected more than that in guaranteed money. So far Williams has collected a 16 million signing bonus in 2011, His salary in 2011 was right at 8 million because it was somewhat front loaded and he will make 5,500,000. Which is right at 29,5 million or the large bulk of his contract while he is still productive. The point here is that people are complaining it affects other players which is a cap issue not a guaranteed signing bonus issue which is paid by Richardson. They are different things.

You can't tell whether you overpaid or not until after the fact. All you can do is think you overpaid at this point until you see their impact. Given that Peyton was hurt last year, did Indy overpay??? What about Denver this year? Depends on whether he comes back 100% and plays at 100% and has a great year........................

Williams is in year 2 of a 5 year contract. The decision is still out about whether we overpaid or not...............

It sounds like you are saying that a signing bonus does not count against the cap?

No, I didn't say that at all but I said that the salary and cap are different. We all know the cap is pro-rated and salary is counted in the year it is paid. The cap is what mostly impacts signing other players not the guaranteed salaries which are paid by the team often up front.

Yes, and it's guaranteed to count against the cap, pro-rated or not.

Hindsight already shows we overpaid. Paid feature RB money on a guy who accounted for about 1/3 of our rushing production while healthy.

Your looking at it wrong, teams overpay players all the time because they have to. Is Beason worth 10 million a year, when we have a rookie gunning for his position and may end up being better than him? After a 2-14 season any player we signed, whether it be our own or someone else we were going to overpay for someone to attract them us.

If we overpay anyone and it has no ill effect on the cap or roster management then as I said earlier its Jerry's money going to waste, nobody else's.

What positions do you want to upgrade that you think we can't with that 8.8 million we have available?

Also can you imagine if Stewart went down with injury last year, having Goodson being our feature back?
