Some people in this topic are ridiculous. No one is arguing about the money like it's theirs. The argument is about the cap space, and it was disgustingly wasted on the 2nd most talented running back on the team. Has it already been talked about to death? Yes.

That doesn't make it any less correct.

To call anything "wasted" on DeAngelo as "disgusting" is about as hyperbolic as you can get....so a few million could have been re-purposed? Yeah, I would agree...did he under perform last year like all the strong critics expected? No....will this year prove to be the year that this deal is as bad as folks are saying? I sure hope not, and I think he still has a lot in the tank....Will he get premier back reps? No way, and that wasn't ever going to happen....So what was the massive payday for? Well, I really still believe this franchise pays players for what they didn't get paid for under the value contracts signed as rookies, or in earlier days...A reward...and I'm not in control of their philosophy, but it sure is refreshing to not hear about constant bitching about money from our best players...think about it.

He won't get the touches for that unless someone gets hurt....Stewart and Tolbert are better fits despite Williams being best runner. Plus, Cam is a beast on the ground. A healthy roster and Williams should max out at 800-900 yards

He'll get a lot of touches this year

He started bad last year and nearly had 900 yds (5.4 ypc)

JStew will not be here if he expects to be payed market value.........

if he offers a hometown discount........who knows?

Hometown discounts don't exist....he would have already signed an extension if a big payday wasn't being sought

We added ANOTHER guy to the backfield who fits the scheme better than him.....and Williams was the 2nd option last year.

Unless there are injuries.....he won't come close to 1200 yards with 4 runners. We aren't a ground and pound team

I think that is our best asset...nobody knows what kind of team our offense will be...

We can make an educated guess....a standard Chud/Norv offense with a Cam spread option touch to it.

Deep ball, run it....sprinkle in some tricks. Norv 101. 3 yards and a cloud of dust is over

Beating a drum about a few million as if that will hamstring the entire personnel strategy might sound smart, but at some point it's water under the bridge. It's been two years and DeAngelo hasn't fallen off the map in ability. Will he get the reps that justify the money? No way, and I'm glad we don't have to lean on him like that. This deal pre-dates Cam...that ought to be enough to silence the scrutiny of judging his deal considering that we now have Cam....I choose to let it go,,,,

Sounds predictable...and vanilla...and pessimistic when you put it that way. I don't feel that's accurate...

It hasn't been 2 years....technically it hasn't even been a year since he got his extension. End of July last year is when they paid him.

And my beef with the Williams deal has ALWAYS been about the situation that would occur when it was time to sign Stewart.....not his deal in a vacuum. Pay Stewart and that isn't just a few millions it becomes a flat our comical situation if you look at the investment in the backfield.....

I doubt that is off the table as our offense swings wildly between the run and the pass....Look at the second half of last year, and develop that while keeping in touch with our new-found passing game...options, possibilities....screw worrying about a two year old deal given to one of the best RB's this team has ever had...it's done..and I am too, again :)

Norv/Chud have been around for years.....they run, they don't play Foxball.

And again, the deal wasn't even done a calendar year ago.....we paid Ray Rice money to what was the 3rd wheel of our ground attack last year

Yeah it doesn't matter that we pay comparable money to an older RB who is merely a piece of our ground attack.....to a featured RB who literally IS an offense. I guess it is silly to look at how we use our money vs how others do

Panthers reward their own. Fact.

D. Williams would have been signed to an extension years before, if it wasn't for the breakdown in getting a new CBA. making the age argument gone.

last, ya gotta pay playmakers.
