Being able to find ways to keep under the cap does not make you a good GM, that makes you good at numbers.

I loved the Williams pick, I never understood the Stewart pick. IMO the only way to not comound the problems of spending two firsts on a RB in 3 years is to not make the even worse mistake of overpaying both of them. It's almost like the team is trying to outsmart the recent belief that you don't overdraft or overspend on running backs by going completely against it.

It just seems to like a major mistake to me.

We haven't had to waste a draft pick on a running back since 2009 (Mike Goodson), so I don't particularly think that is a mistake.

It allows us to address other needs.

The mistake was paying Williams like he is Jim Brown (see what I did there), however; I expect Hurney to correct his mistake and Williams to oblige by taking a pay cut in a restructured contract.

We drafted Stewart bc Fox wanted to pound the ball.....and regardless of why Williams hadn't lived up to the billing.

Personally, I think Williams early on was one of many examples of Fox poorly managing the roster. I don't think Vinny T brought the stud out....Williams torched teams when Fox finally would give him carries late. Williams should of gotten a chunk of Fosters carries

If we didn't spend the money on Williams, what would we have done with it? When was the last time the Panthers signed a big name free agent? Whats that? Never. Oh ok.

People are too focused in it being one stud...

Depth has been crappy for YEARS here. Instead of brining in one Ron Edwards.....you bring in MANY as an example. That way you have options and players instead of mindboggling holes.....for years

Except that it still impacts other aspects of the team.....and that makes it relevant. Will be relevant when Stewart becomes a hotter topic.

* edited first post, should of been 24 for Rice not 25

The Panthers will be carrying 8+ million into the following season... we'll have two core players as FAs, right? Otah and Stewart...one of those two will get that money, cuz we sure as hell aren't spending that money on outside top tier FAs . So who does that money go to!?.......

The defensive players that turn everything around. No one has been named but for every contract we sign we are less likely to find that FA that is so good that:

a) The team he is playing with doesn't franchise him

B) We could afford.

c) Could play pro-bowl or almost pro bowl calibre DT, Safety , CB, LB and DE.

No one will complain after Williams' 1200yd plus season this year

He won't get the touches for that unless someone gets hurt....Stewart and Tolbert are better fits despite Williams being best runner. Plus, Cam is a beast on the ground. A healthy roster and Williams should max out at 800-900 yards
