Bobcats claim Brendan Haywood

I'd like almost split time between Haywood/Biz. Keep Haywood more healthy and get Biz the experience he needs. Unless the roll with starting both of them. If Tyrus straightens up though I expect him to start. Mullens rotates in depending on who we're playing, etc.

Sweet, now let's just get Jamison and call it an off season.

2012-2013 Current Roster

PG: Kemba Walker, Ramon Sessions

SG: Gerald Henderson, Ben Gordon, Reggie Williams, Matt Carroll

SF: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Jeffrey Taylor, Derrick Brown

PF: Bismack Biyombo, Tyrus Thomas

C: Brendan Haywood, Byron Mullens, DeSagana Diop

If we sign Jamison, I can see Carroll, Thomas and Diop as the three inactive's for each game.

No to Jamison.

Jamison name was brought in bc he could be a good leader, but I think we what we have done in FA and have seen from Dunlap's, we dont need Jamison just so we can have a leader here.

Tawn can still ball, but is old and only thing he would benefit for us is help us win prob 8 more games, and thats not good while we wants to pick in the top 4 next year.

Former North Carolina center Brendan Haywood has been claimed by the Charlotte Bobcats, according to sources with knowledge of the move.

NBA teams were notified at 5 p.m. Saturday the Bobcats had lodged the winning bid in a blind auction to claim Haywood, who was released Thursday by the Dallas Mavericks via the one-time amnesty clause.

NBA.com reported the Bobcats' winning bid was just more than $2 million, which means Dallas must pay roughly $6.3 million of Haywood's $8.3 million salary in 2012-13.

Releasing Haywood via amnesty wiped the $27.2 million he's owed over the next three seasons off the Mavericks' books for salary-cap and luxury-tax purposes. The Bobcats now will assume more than $6 million of that financial obligation.

Haywood played as a teammate in Washington alongside Charlotte owner Michael Jordan.

Only teams under the salary cap can bid on players waived via the amnesty clause. The waiver process takes 48 hours, with players released via amnesty gaining unrestricted free agency if they go unclaimed.

That provision made Darko Milicic an unrestricted free agent Saturday. The No. 2 overall pick behind LeBron James in the 2003 draft -- amnestied Thursday by the Minnesota Timberwolves -- cleared waivers.

By using its one-time amnesty clause on Haywood, Dallas went under the salary cap and used the resultant space to sign former All-Star center Chris Kaman to a one-year deal worth $8 million and then lodge a winning bid of $2.1 million in Friday's waiver auction for former All-Star Elton Brand, who was released via amnesty Wednesday by the Philadelphia 76ers.

Sources say the Mavericks are also one of the prime suitors with interest in bidding Sunday forLuis Scola, who was amnestied Friday by theHouston Rockets.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Sacramento Kings, sources told ESPN.com, are also seriously weighing whether to register a blind bid for Scola, whose existing three-year contract means the minimum amnesty bid is just more than $3 million for next season and $10-plus million through 2014-15.

What is it with the Charlotte Bobcats and overpaid Dallas Mavericks centers?

They took DeSagana Diop off their hands just months after Dallas lavished the Senegal native with the full mid-level exception. Then Charlotte traded Tyson Chandler for Erick Dampier and his fully non-guaranteed contract. On Saturday, the Bobcats acquired Brendan Haywood through the amnesty waiver process, ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported, citing sources with knowledge of the move.

Dallas amnestied the former North Carolina Tar Heel on Thursday, shortly after agreeing to a one-year, $8 million deal with center Chris Kaman. Haywood, who lives in Charlotte during the offseason, is owed $27.2 million over the next three seasons, including $8.3 million this season, all of which will be paid to Haywood, but wiped off the Mavs' books in terms of salary cap and luxury tax ramifications.

The Bobcats' winning bid for Haywood was $2.05 million, according to NBA.com, meaning Charlotte will be responsible for that amount of Haywood's salary with the Mavs picking up the balance. It's just $500,000 less than the bid the Mavs submitted earlier this week to win the services of power forward Elton Brand.

Haywood, 32, will join Diop in Charlotte on Michael Jordan's wayward club that set an NBA record for lowest winning percentage (.106) last season.

It was an up-and-down tenure in Dallas for Haywood. He was part of the 2010 deadline trade that brought him, Caron Butler and DeShawn Stevenson over from Washington forJosh Howard and others. The deal ultimately paid off in a championship with, interestingly enough, Stevenson becoming the key piece of the deal in terms of the 2011 title.

Haywood's performances were erratic. At times he flashed signs of being a double-double machine and other times appeared as if he'd rather be on a beach somewhere. Never a true offensive threat, his defensive abilities deteriorated as this season progressed and he averaged just 15 minutes a game in the playoff sweep to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Haywood figured to become an amnesty victim if the Mavs were successful in luring top free-agent target Deron Williams. When that didn't happen, Haywood figured to be staying. That he was amnestied goes to show just how fed up the Mavs had become with the passive 7-footer.

Now it's off to Charlotte, where Haywood will certainly feel the comforts of home.

We don't need a top four pick to get a good big man, we don't need Muhammad. Henderson will work fine, I think he'll have the best season his career this year.

Our front court sucks ass, and next years draft is full of good big's.

How many games do you think Haywood plays...in limited time he gets banged up every season it seems. He adds a presence but id rather have a Scola or JJ hickson.. Ben Gordon is really an awkward fit for the roser..he adds shooting but a 6'0 tall backcourt is not exciting.

I want to see a lot of MKG, Taylor and Gerald Henderson...if they go small.

Gordon is a good fit, perfect fit. He's probably comes off the bench as the 6th man. Remember he was one time the 6th man of the year. Probably best shooter for our team right now.

I was about to say the total opposite.

Now, I'm even more optimistic about Shabazz after the Haywood pickup bc we have a big man already.

Gordon is probably going to be the 6th man for us. Hendo, im not sure at all. I hope he improves, but if he doesnt bump his ppg to atleast 18ppg at the end of next season, and Shabazz is somewhat productive at UCLA, you're going to see a lot of Shabazz Muhammad from me in here next year this time around.

This still isn't good enough to compete but these offseason moves are much better than those they've made in the past. Now let's wait and see if anyone refuses to play for the Bobcats.

Well I think thats the plan. To put up a team whos good enough to build around, but not good enough to compete in 2012 so we can land a top 4 pick in 2013.
