Steve makes me laugh

i remember i had a prior engagement for a family function on opening day 2009. we were listening to the game in the car on the way and caught the first drive where williams scored on that draw play. i was so pumped walking back to my car just before halftime figuring the panthers were up big only to hear loud boos and mixon talking about a score of 31-10 when i turned the radio back on.

I'm sure most of you have seen this, but Steve is funny. I would pay to hear Smitty mic'd up every game.

Video also makes me remember how much Delhomme disappointed me over the years. :(

Really bro!! Delhomme was no Manning or Brady. But he was the best QB the panthers ever had. The man came in during the Jags game week one after Rodney Peete failed do anything in the first half. From there that year Delhomme went on to take this team to the SB and all most won it. Delhomme had his up and downs over the years as a panther. But he was the best we ever had outside of Steve Beuerlein. Don't why some people around here didn't think Jake was all that great. He was good enough to get us to a few NFC Championship games and a SB and a NFC South title.

I respect Jake, I have a 17 jersey. I think he was a decent QB, he just disapointed me sometimes.

God. After the Super Bowl loss and the '05 Championship game, this game is by far the worst in Carolina history for me. Oh man oh man. You just knew it'd be a long season after that. Thank god Matt Moore salvaged it. Stupid Fox. Could have made the playoffs had we benched Delhomme earlier (I'm positive we could have beaten Jets and Buffalo).

The playoff game against Arizona wasn't bad. I mean, be honest, guys. Did you honestly think with the way our defense was playing (Ken Lucas LOL) and how all Delhomme did was chuck the ball up to Smitty that we were actually going to go far? I didn't have much hope so it didn't hurt me much.

05 Championship Game might be the worst though. At least in the Super Bowl, it was an exciting game against a dynasty. The '05 Championship Game wasn't nearly as close as the score indicates. It felt like we got pummeled as soon as the coin toss was done.

Don't get me wrong, both losses were horrible but ranking a home opener loss at home higher than a home playoff loss at home is laughable.

losing in the playoffs you can at least look back on a good run. Home opener in 2009 confirmed that Jake was done and knowing Fox he would stubbornly stick with him for as long as possible. Knew the entire season was fuged.

I remember the offseason before that game. Jake got that extension and all the Delhomme fanboys were acting superior and defending him to the bitter end when the realistic posters knew the next season was going to be terrible. I remember in the gameday thread Raging Bull (I think it was him) saying something like "Ok Jake defenders, your QB that Hurney gave a big contract to just got benched during the first game of the season! lol". Reality soon came crashing down on them that season though.

I'm glad someone else realizes that Steve Beuerlein, despite not taking us to a Super Bowl, was a better QB than Jake.

That playoff game in Arizona was the worst by far because of:

1. We were the better team

2. Jake Delhomme threw that game away

3. We let 1 player destroy us with basically no adjustments. (Fritzgerald)

4. It was at home

5. We would have had homefield throughout the rest of the playoffs because of the giants loss.

We weren't going to get past Philadelphia regardless.

Seriously, do people remember how sad Carolina looked? Our defense was horrific, we couldn't stop the run or the pass. And Delhomme was completely unreliable. Even in the event we got past Philadelphia, we probably would have had the worst Super Bowl loss in history against Pittsburgh.

I'm not saying I'm glad we didn't win. But I wasn't nearly as optimistic going into that game as I was into the Philadelphia game. I didn't think we had any chance against Warner/Fitzgerald with Ken Lucas playing like the worst defensive player in the league.

Wow that Philly game was horrible. I was so pumped and excited for the season. I remember flying to the bar, getting a flat tire and almost missing kickoff. Finally got to the bar with my girlfriends brother who is an insane eagles fan. We were talking mad crap to each other, having a good time at first, and it was just downhill from there. I drank to obliteration as the game went on, it was such an embarrassing game to say the least.

Little did we know the true mess we were in for; but hey that was the beginning of Cam Newton coming to Carolina.
