I Always hear about how good of a back up he is.

he's a GREAT special teamer...ill never forget the story i heard about him...he had to wear a sheild on his helmet cause everytime he got downfield, he'd hit so hard, his contacts would fly out of his eyes...

but as a starter....not that good...

I think we should be considering Antonio Bryant. He played well down the stretch at the beginning of the season. His lack of numbers and is only due to the fact he's had around a million coaching and quarterback changes during his time with the team.

He is what we need IMO, a young guy who won't break the bank but does have good hands. If he's smart enough to pick up our system, I say give him a shot.

for me, Antonio Bryant is nothing spectacular...about 7 targets a week avg. caught 54% of what was targeted him. 14.8 yards per catch. 3 TDs on the year.

red zone...hmmm...targeted 11 times, 3 catches, 1 TD. you throw to who you can trust, esp. in important situations. out of 11 times he caught 3 and only one time could turn it into a TD.

i haven't watched him play much, but i know he talks a lot of smack that he can't really back up (not a fan of that). i asked some people in another forum who are browns fans about him, haven't heard back from them yet. i don't know if thats a good sign or what. but i do know that they are banking on the charlie frye/braylon edwards combo next year and are excited that they won't have to rely so much on bryant.

if i hear anything and we still care i will post it but going on what i have seen, there are better options out there.

Those are the good free agents I found for the end of the season. Who do you want to get? who do you think we could get? Please dont act like a falcon fan and say we can get alexander, brees and ect, be realistic.

Ken Dorsey ???? My mom has a stronger arm.

i don't think we need to look much beyond this list of WRs for next year. no need to draft one, lets save those spots for areas where there is no other real alternatives.

Antonio Bryant not crazy about him. see earlier comments

Antwaan Randle El has a lot of potential. beginning of the year there was a lot of excotement about him but he fizzled. i still think he could be good. also has worked as a QB. not a bad option to have, IMO.

Brandon Lloyd this guy can be great. he makes some really spectacular catches. he hasn't had the greatest of target/catches % but he has been playing for san fran (say what you will about our O-line, we aren't the 9ers, be thankful) noy crazy about this guy in the red zone, but then he plays for the 49ers. not great down there as a team anyway.

David Givens i like him...given more opps he could do great things. he would work well here, better situation than in NE i believe. he posted great numbers with Brady who spreads it around to everyone. not terrible in the redzone. i think he would fit in our program.

Joe Jurevicius a personal favorute, not the most consistent performer but the guy has some skills and has shown him self to be a real redzone and TD threat. 6'5" the guy is a very nice counter to the much shorter steve smith. btw he has 10 TDs on the year.

Keenan McCardell another nice threat. 9 TDs on the year well over 800 yards. 65% targets/recps just about as dangerous in the redzone as Vicius. downside, this is his 14th year. i won't discriminate if we can can get one or two good years out of him. age could make him a bargain.

Nate Burleson no no and a thousand times no.

Reggie Wayne dream on. he would come with far too hefty a pricetag

I agree... The only question is how we fit it in under the cap... I like SEVERAL of the ones you listed, and with the new CBA not being what many teams were hoping, we could see some more viable options added to that list..

I would like to see some more options. you can never have too many but i think that we have enough of a selection there. i think there will be more to choose from later on.

Does anyone have a good source for finding the $$ value of players?? I would like to find out these guys salary history. it might give us an idea of what the organization might do.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
