Mike Williams released

Recommended Posts

I personally enjoy talking about released players. It makes me feel good knowing that we have better players on our team or that their is a possibility of an upgrade. I believe every possibility to make our team better should be evaluated. I enjoy talking about the possibilities of FA players and weighing the options that our team has and could have.

Unless I missed the reason for having a fan forum. Oh wait, I remember now, I heard Sean Peyton went out on a date last Tuesday

Give me the stats behind your statement? Gettis and LaFell were 4 and 5 among rookie receivers. Gettis was on his way to being #2 last year before he got hurt. LaFell improved as the season went on.

What gives the impression they aren't the answer. Cause you say so?

Most receivers don't come into their own until their 3rd season. Gettis and LaFell both will make teams pay for doubling Smitty.

While I agree Williams didn't have the QBs to make him great Gettis and LaFell did alright with a QB arguably worse than Russell and Jackson COMBINED.

Don't try and act like Gettis and LaFell haven't had opportunities. No one is going to mistake either one of them for A.J. Green ( which I realize is an extreme comparison is, but you counter extremism with extremism).

Some of you are so damned sure (too sure), as opposed to acknowledging that there are still big question marks regarding whether or not Gettis and LaFell are the long term answers. Stats never ever give a complete picture as to a player's actual impact upon a game, and in fact can give the illusion that players are more prolific than they really are. I have said it before: I am tired of dealing in question marks for our long term answer at the WR position, I want to see some exclamation points. But, if you are gonna deal in question marks, one more question mark is not going to necessarily have a profound impact upon the improvement and/or development of the bunch (either individually or as a group).

Yes, Williams has a past with a questionable work ethic, but when the time came to rededicate himself to his craft and take advantage of his opportunity to shine, he did a decent job. It wasn't his work ethic that got him released by the Seahawks, it was injury and the emergence of Doug Baldwin. He is still a relatively young, big target that could surprise if he goes to the right place. It's not like he has a gang of mileage on him. I realize that many of you don't want the guy to upset our little apple cart of developing seedlings, but don't mis-characterize reality, or assassinate someone who obviously had enough gumption to get back in the game and actually contribute in a productive manner.

I'd prefer to read about and discuss released players. It's the offseason. It's so funny when some people on here get so offended and butt hurt that this type of thread is created. Cry about it. It's probably the best offseason topic other than how beast Cam is.

There are lots softies on here who whine and complain. Wahhhh wahhhh wahhhh. "another player release thread OmG!!!! Wahhhh"

I guess talking about a coach's divorce is fair game here. But not a released player. Check yo self

Yeah and I am sick and tired of every time a player get banished from one team he is going to change his attitude and way of life. Become a new man with a change of scenary. Rod Gardner and Koren Robinson sound familar? STFU with the mighter than thou attitude. You are blind as a bat to think that Gettis and/or LaFell aren't progressing as planned.

You throw A.J. Green out there. Sweet. How many rookie WR have a great season like A. J. Green? Not Many.

WR is arguably the most difficult position to transition from College to NFL. (along with DT)

If a player like Mike Williams get cut. I am sure it goes farther than attitude. Not one but TWO teams jettisoned him.

WE WON'T SIGN HIM, WE WON'T EVEN CONSIDER HIM... I AM RIGHT YOU ARE WRONG..

HAVE A GOOD DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, that was mature. The I-am-right-you-are-wrong argument.

I never said that we would sign or consider him. That's not the point.

Lastly, I love it when people accuse me of having a "mightier than thou attitude" because I can actually back up my opinion, while simultaneously realizing that it's not a fact like some of you. Some people are intimidated by intelligence and/or intellect.

OK let me say it this way so your super intelligent mind can comprehend it. We won't sign a veteran WR for camp. UNLESS someone goes down in camp. If we do, it will be a mid-level player just like we did last year. I said this last year and everyone but a few jumped on me like white on rice about how I knew nothing.

My "I am right attitude" comes from your insulting comments implying I know nothing. So please forego the "I was only stating my opinion" attitude. You like the majority of other posters when disagreeing with a post. Insult and follow-up with your weak opinion.

So we are clear. You basically want to bring in a Veteran WR to compete. Of course we have to cut a promising young player that will probably pick up with another team and in couple of years do well for another team. While the Veteran MIGHT put up some decent numbers our other WRs progress is slowed. Good Idea.

Glad you aren't the GM.

I was 100% right last year and I was be majorly surprised if we sign someone like Williams. Williams is a BUST let someone else take him.

There's nothing intelligent about writing multiple paragraphs on the aspect of MIKE WILLIAMS bringing something to the Carolina Panthers when we already have Greg Hardy gaining weight on the d-line.

And if you're calling St. Pierre as Gettis's "opportunity," then wow.

Ok, someone has to set the recoerd straight. Williams was drafted by Millen in Detroit. They raped the Cowboys getting rid of him. The Cowboys jettisoned him almost immediately. Oakland picked him up, but let him go because of physical reasons. The Seahawks picked him up, and he had a good year. Got hurt again, and is now on the streets.

He is a talented slob. Do not want.

With the Dallas part, you're confusing Mike Williams for Roy Williams. Mike never showed any talent. He's never caught more than 2 TDs in a season.
