Luis Scola anyone?

Luis Scola is expected to be amnesty by the Rockets. He is the best player to be amnestied so far. A pretty good power foward who is capable of scoring. We have a chance to make a bid at him. Should we?

"Rockets general manager continues to be very aggressive, trying to break out of the mediocre rut Houston has been stuck in.

In a league where quality big men are at a premium, the Rockets are going to use their amnesty clause to cut loose Luis Scola and his three-years, $21 million remaining, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports and the NBC Sports Network.

Scola is probably the best player to be amnestied so far, averaging 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last season, 18.3 and 8 the season before. He is an above average NBA big man who may not be an All-Star but would fit on most teams.

Scola, once amnestied, will spend 48 hours on the waiver wire, where teams under the salary cap can bid on him (teams offer to take on a portion of his salary to get his services, the Rockets still pay the rest of his salary it just doesn’t count on their official books). Already the Mavericks have said they would make a big bid, Wojnarowski reported, and other teams have to be thinking the same thing.

Why did the Rockets do it? To clear out more cap space in their efforts to at least rent Dwight Howard (no deal is close). With this not only can not only take on his contract next year but also take back the bad deal of Jason Richardson or Hedo Turkoglu. The Rockets also have been stockpiling picks to make a deal for Howard, and with the Nets out they may now be the frontrunner to land him.

Howard has said he would not re-sign with the Rockets, they would just be renting him. But either way, this is a good move for the Rockets because they have been stuck in the NBA’s doldrums. It’s no man’s land middle ground. They get Howard and they become good, keep him and they have a franchise anchor to put pieces around and win (plus now they would have the cap space to add a max player next summer, like Chris Paul). Lose Howard and they will be bad for a couple years and get high lottery picks. Either way, they break out of the middle ground."

what i would actually be interested in, and wait i know everyone will hate this idea

but since we do have to spend the money, still go get jamison, but after that get greg oden.

front load the money to get us to the cap floor and have it in a 3yr length, with alot of upfront money and non-guaranteed back 2 yrs. i know he has never been healthy and prolly never will. but he has shown the ability to play. i would rather blow money on him than an older player who wont be here in future. worth the risk since we must spend money anyway. and it wont happen, but i wish it would

I dno man. Antawn would be a good pickup and a good leader, but after all that hes old. Im not sure if I like the signing of Jamison as much as yall.

If we want a PF, I would look for a Humphries or Scola whos this young.

For Oden, I wouldnt mind bringing him for a year. He gotta be better than Thabeet, and he landed a job with OKC.

A very productive player that I would be happy to add under certain circumstances. Unfortunately, circumstances aren't good for the Bobcats.

He plays off of his competitive edge. You bring him here and you risk seeing him completely disappear for sake of simply not trying as hard down the stretch when it doesn't matter anymore. (My one concern about MKG.......and even Cam for that matter... )

And as many have already stated, not really a good building piece.. as of now.

    • The issue is the formula is secret, and it incorporates runs... So... Yup, it does. Same with PFF (which isn't quite as secret). But when it doesn't - like on Sunday - it's often to hilarious results. PFF is more reliable I think at matching my 'eye' test.
    • According to the talking heads of the sports world, this is a pretty meh QB class.  Sanders and Ward are the only two with first round buzz, but the rest are blah.  Take that for what you will. Let's see how Bryce does in year three.  That's just where we are.  Patience is the key here.  Players need time to develop.  They can't develop if they don't play.  Bryce has made some really good throws, but he doesn't look like CJ Stroud.  That's going to be his point of comparison the rest of their careers.  The ball doesn't explode off Bryce's hand, it's not a cannon ball shot out of a cannon.  He's not going to break a 70 yard run.   Bryce is going to have to continue to make good throws and make plays.  Part of that is going to depend on the play calls.  Part of it is based on the skill players.  A couple drops picked up yesterday and it's a win and Bryce throws 1-2 more TDs.  A completely different story. It's been a crazy year indeed.  I just want to see Bryce continue to develop.  To see XL become more consistent.  To see JT fully recover (not play this season if he's not healthy).  I want to see Coker continue to make plays.  I'd love to see Brooks get more touches and Chubba continue to hammer defenses. Then this approaching offseason, let's go back to the D and work on fixing it.
    • Prime is already gone boss.  Nothing left for team Sanders in college football.
