Whats the deal with Cam charging for Autographs today?

that's absurd to go waste $200 on a fuging grown man's signature. Sure, it would be cool to have an autographed jersey or helmet or something but that's way to much money to spend.

Newton isn't just any grown man.

He's Superman.

not a big deal.

it's not like this is the only time he will ever give out autographs. it's not the only time to get an autograph.

if you don't like it, then don't go and pay. not sure why people are bitching about what some other people are willing to throw their money at. not sure why people are bitching about someone going out and making money to sign their name at a one time event he was invited to come to.

Pretty much every athlete does this. It's not Cam taking the money from the fans, it's the company he's signing for and it's their event. He will get his cut for sure, but it's not like he's demanding $150 from Joe on the street before signing. Also, I'm pretty sure that price includes the ball/jersey/picture. Btw, anyone thinking those numbers are high hasn't looked at other autographs lately.

Why is this a big deal again?

It says more about the idiots who wait in line for a signature......and pay for it.

yep. who in here wouldn't do that? i mean get paid to sign something.

people getting mad at cam for doing this gig are just being little yapping bitches.

This will be news for all of 3 days, and then. . .poof. . .forgotten.

I have zero problem with Cam charging $125, when the signed product is either invaluable to the recipient or will be worth more on the market. It's a win-win and good business sense.

Charlotte really needs to get its friggin panties straightened out if it ever expects to be taken seriously as a major city.

Personally, I don't get it. Lets say they make 50 grand from autographs today. The promotions company is getting at least 40 percent of that. So Cam gets say 30 grand.

30 grand.

In the grand scheme, the hit it has taken in the court of public opinion is not worth what he gets paid for a tenth of a game of football play.

The hit taken in the court of public opinion is mainly because of the Scott Fowlers of the world who give their unresearched and biased opinion in exchange for getting his shitty employer's website more hits. It's pretty sad when Mike freaking Florio is a journalistic voice of reason on this topic.

The PFT article is spot on. You should read it if you have not already.

My take: Common knowledge will tell you people will have their kids go ask for an autograph or ask themselves at some point, only to turn around and sell it. It's not fair to Newton, nor the person buying it because they will never be able to 100% know of the authenticity of it.

So since there is a market for autographed gear, I think its a great idea for those that really covet this kind of thing and can be sure they are getting the real deal. Yes they have to pay for it, but odd's are without this opportunity they would have paid for it on ebay or elsewhere had they not been given this opportunity. Granted he could have held this event for free, but those who really covet this kind of thing and are obviously willing to pay for it are probably thankful for the shorter wait time and not having to deal with the free loaders.

How is this even remotely related to Charlotte being or not being a major city?
