There is an exemption called "bird rights" that allows teams to go over the salary cap and into the luxury tax. You have a player's bird rights when he is under contract for more than 3 years. If you trade for a player, his bird rights go with him. They traded for Williams, wallace, johnson, and they've had lopez under contract for more than 3 years. They can go over cap to sign those 4.

Basically they got to this point by trading the entire farm for deron williams and hoping they could convince him to resign. They then committed huge amounts of money to overpay wallace and take on johnson's bad contract to help convince williams to return. If he had left, they would have been stuck with a terrible team that was overpaying 2 veterans. They gambled hard and won, so congrats to them.

It's actually not a terrible thing for charlotte as they are going to have to pay out the ass for what is probably a 3rd or 4th place team, and we get part of that luxury tax money.

Meanwhile, the Lakers got Nash and could get Howard. Rumors now say they're eyeing Jamison, Brand, and O'Neal. And we all know about the Heat. The NBA is this close to being unwatchable. Why even bother if you aren't a fan of like three teams. As for the players who sign lesser contracts just to get a ring, is it still the same when you win? When your team is nearly an All-Star team?

    • According to the talking heads of the sports world, this is a pretty meh QB class.  Sanders and Ward are the only two with first round buzz, but the rest are blah.  Take that for what you will. Let's see how Bryce does in year three.  That's just where we are.  Patience is the key here.  Players need time to develop.  They can't develop if they don't play.  Bryce has made some really good throws, but he doesn't look like CJ Stroud.  That's going to be his point of comparison the rest of their careers.  The ball doesn't explode off Bryce's hand, it's not a cannon ball shot out of a cannon.  He's not going to break a 70 yard run.   Bryce is going to have to continue to make good throws and make plays.  Part of that is going to depend on the play calls.  Part of it is based on the skill players.  A couple drops picked up yesterday and it's a win and Bryce throws 1-2 more TDs.  A completely different story. It's been a crazy year indeed.  I just want to see Bryce continue to develop.  To see XL become more consistent.  To see JT fully recover (not play this season if he's not healthy).  I want to see Coker continue to make plays.  I'd love to see Brooks get more touches and Chubba continue to hammer defenses. Then this approaching offseason, let's go back to the D and work on fixing it.
    • Prime is already gone boss.  Nothing left for team Sanders in college football.
    • Justin Fields’ fifth-year option was declined by the Steelers in April. Without a new contract, he will be a free agent in March. I am pulling for Bryce Young to look good the rest of the season, but if he doesn't, how many of you would be on board for the Panthers to try signing Justin Fields?
