probably deserves a max contract if lopez and hibbert got one. i say we send him an offer sheet. he and bismack would average around 6 blocked shots a game between the two of them. not saying i love his game, but if thats the market price then we will have to pay sooner or later anyways.

worst case scenario, the nugs match and we forced them to pay more than they wanted to. best case, we have a new starting center

He's a huge head case, no way he would stay quiet in the Bobcats organization.

He has talent, but a max contract is really, really, pushing it.

He has yet to put up max contract numbers, so what makes you thinks he will once he gets that contract? Most guys like McGee play hard until they get their big contract, then disappear (i.e. Tyrus Thomas).

yes ive seen him play, yes i know hes a bonehead. the eric gordon reference was made realizing he was traded for a 1st round pick. gordon is an undersized 2 guard who cant play the point and cant play defense. players like him are 10x easier to find than athletic 7'0's with game. not ideal, but winning 15 games next year isnt either- which is what we are targeting.

*meant to say ben gordon

I'm not really following why the team would intentionally give away our cap space for the next 3-4 years on a guy who is so painfully not worth it. Ben Gordon is only a 2 year contract, and yet the Pistons had to spend one of their 1st round picks just to get rid of him. If anything we should learn from their mistake and not overpay a guy just so we can say we signed a free agent

He definitely wouldn't be worth a max contract just as a player, and that's not even dealing with the fact that he is widely considered to have terrible intangibles. You could hope that he puts it together and begins to play at that level, but that's the rationale behind 90% of the terrible contracts in this league. I would pass on the guy without a lot of regret. Keep the cap space at this point and maintain some versatility. You never know what's going to happen, and it'll probably be better than McGee.

8789 I agree with you but right now that looks better then going into the season with

Mullens and Diop as our only options at center.

cant be shortsighted... stay the course. no to mcgee, maybe to brook lopez, he brings inside scoring we need. decent defender and a suspect rebounder but with biz mkg hendo and kemba ll being good rebounders it would be fine. either gove me brook or wait till next yr.
