Home theater question

I was looking to upgrade my home theater system soon. I had a friend tell me about his Bose cinemate system. What I liked about it is that it has no receiver. You basically hook it up to the TV with one cable and the TV then essentially becomes the receiver. What ever you had hooked up to the TV,.... xbox, direct tv, blu ray player etc..They all play through the Bose immediately. Theres no buttons to push on a receiver or any scanning to match the component or anything. You just turn on your blu-ray and the sounds there! your xbox, sound is there! Just like the audio would if you had no system and were just using the TV speakers. Its easy, few wires...but its a Bose......Is there any other Home theater that works like this? If not, is there even a brand or set up that involves a blu ray or reciever that can automatically detect what component your running with out having to manually scan through to find the right set up? Maybe they all do now, my current system is 5 years old and it was bottom of the line at the time.

I have seen those as well. I was actually hoping for some of the multi-speaker systems to bring in a true surround sound. I dont know much about the surround bars, but if they sound just as good,...(heck for around 150 bucks, half as good) it would be worth it....
