We have so much riding on our smaller college draft picks

Armanti Edwards and Dexter Jackson

size of school didn't matter for them either.

you either have it or you don't. just like hundreds of larger and smaller school prospects before them, they just didn't have what it takes.

Plenty of players come from small schools.

People act like the NFL is filled with all big conference schools.

That simply is not the case.

Stop acting like it's rare for a small school kid to be a good pro. There are plenty of examples, all throughout the history of the NFL.

It is rare for a 2nd round pick.I am not saying he will bust but give me a list of division 2 guys drafted in the top 40..I also understand he would have played for a division 1 college if it were not for his academics.

I was just listening to NFL Radio and they were talking about the small school prospects coming in the league with a chip on their shoulders and not having the "silver spoon" treatment like the top picks. The top 2 CBs on the FA market this year were Brent Grimes and Cortland Finnegan, both from small schools. They actually mentioned Josh Norman and some other CB drafted in the 6th round as guys to look out for a few years down the road.

I'm excited for this guy! All homerism aside, if this guys can step up and play, he may be our missing link on D.

Lets hope so....we really need that 2nd cb to step it up.

No, it's not that rare. Every year teams draft players that most peoples response is "who?"

Pick any team and go through their rosters, even just their starters, and i promise you will find small school guys from every round.

Every team has examples of this.

For every Tony Romo there are 10 Phillip Rivers

It's laughable to say D2 is equal...they are not

90% of the time they just aren't good enough to play in D1

And for the person who mentioned drafting small school prospects is easier today bc of Internet and scouting the same can be said for recruiting.

Yes players get overlooked and they can develop into great players but it is not the norm.

Back in the day it was easier to draft small school guys. The draft was 16 rounds, sorry 17 rounds. And 26 teams, as of 1973. And there were small school guys taken in the early rounds then too. #8-Bears-Wally Chambers-DE-Eastern Kentucky. #17-Lions-Ernie Sims-DE-Texas A&I.

So small school guys have been around for a long time. Amini is just another in a long line of small school guys, with big league talent.

This was an article written in 02/2010 where there were 50 division 2 playing in the NFL.What it does not show is where they were drafted.Does anyone know where a division 2 player has been drafted in the 2nd round? I bet they are few and far between. Most were projected in the 7th round.

My only point is we either drafted a very rare talent if he plays up to his draft pick or we really reached as in the case of AE where we traded a 2nd. I am not making a prediction but merely an observation and to point out how unusual this pick really was.I wish him all the best .I know some great players have come out of Division 2 but how many were drafted in the top 40?

There are also 1000's of players from D1 schools that were not up to snuff. Good players are good players no matter where they come from. Two of the best WRs right now came from D2 schools.
