The Idea of a "No Name" Receiver Emerging

So there's always a handful of random receivers around the league that end up really coming on the scene, sometimes sustaining their random out-of-nowhere seasons a la Welker, Colston, (Maybe Cruz), etc and sometimes falling short like the other Steve Smith, Ashley Lelie, Mike Furrey, too many to think of...there are basically always sleeper WRs but never really with us :)

Now what has me interested this year more so than the rest in our history is that we now actually have a legitimate power-offense in place. That's why I'm content with not only who we have, but who our system may let shine. I just don't see anymore Drew Carters and Colberts that we'll have to cross our fingers about. We're more in the: "let's see who randomly develops chemistry with Cam and blows up due to the other weapons teams will have to cover on our offense" boat

With Smitty and LaFell set, we of course have an open running for any guy to step up in an already legitimized offense which has been debated here already quite a lot. Not rocket science by any means but I don't think we need to worry about WR or obtaining anyone for that matter even if he is under 27 or so and on the market.

I'd rather be excited on who's gonna step up because I'm pretty confident that with Newton and our running game +Bowling Ball along with Smitty, LaFell, and Olsen...someone is gonna be there to step up and shine...its not about the WR position underperforming...its about who's gonna be the diamond in the rough.

So right now we're looking at of course

David Gettis -- who may already be a legit guy...still in the air but I'm thinking he will excel

Joe Adams -- crazy return guy...could end up being a Smitty type (knock on wood)

Pilares "Insert Hawaiian Nickname Here"

Seyi Arijotutu -- a guy who many probably think is another rando simply with a cool name and that's why people like him

Lamont Bryant -- Who is actually quite intriguing imho

Then you have the Rico Wallaces & Jared Greens...you simply never know

So rather than trying to figure out what potential addition at WR could work here, I think our system alone is gonna allow for one of these guys to step up. THIS IS NOT FOX'S TEAM ANYMORE...so I can totally see this actually coming to fruition for once rather than another Jarrett, Colbert, Armanti, Carter type situation. That's imo a big reason why team's like San Diego, NO, Detroit, etc. with strong offenses have random receivers come out of nowhere.

Worth a thread? I dunno, but its something to consider if y'all haven't already ;)

happy 4th...back to Wyoming

Seyi Arijotutu has no chance because he came from S.D and had the same opportunities the Legadu and Applewhite had to come in and contribute immediately because of the familiarity they had with Rivera and Chud. He did nothing but ride the pine.

Gettis shined when hardly no one else did in 10, so thats a good sign.

Adams is one elusive m.f and i'll never forget Janoris Jenkins saying Adams ran the best routes at the Senior Bowl.

Pilares should obviously have a leg up on the 2 undrafted guys and has the most to gain from a full offseason.

Joe Adams and David Gettis will both have breakout seasons with over 500 yards. I don't know if you can really call it emerging for Gettis though since that's about on par with what he did in 2010. Re-emerging maybe?

I'd call it just not going in the Carruth/Colbert/Lelie direction haha

Gettis wasn't that good. It was like the guy that scores 20 a game on a bad NBA team. Someone has to touch the ball. We will see but I want Cam to get Plaxico/VJax big fast boy to play the no.1 role in the future. Lafell can be the no.2 and Steve can split the slot with Joe Adams.

No one on our current roster can be the guy I want so for this year maybe Kealoha gets some catches. Maybe Joe Adams. I really don't see any Victor Cruz's on our team. Those guys are really hard to find.

no one is a Smitty type. there is literally no one else who has ever played the game like him and to say that someone might become like him is extremely unlikely I think. Maybe we can hope Adams becomes a Deshaun Jackson type and be a little closer to reality.

If Gettis is a Brandon Jennings...that ain't to shabby haha

"type" can be stretched in many ways. Of course no one can match Smitty when you look at the whole picture

Gettis is 6' 3" and decently fast. I don't know why he can't fit that role. Sure he's not a 6'6" giant like Lamont Bryant, but six three is going to be bigger than most DBs.

Hurney has been hoping and trying this for years, what's our track record? Oh.. yeah.

again, the point was that its not Fox's team anymore...its not a Seifert team.

We have a completely different and legit offense in place that could allow for a quite different scenario. Looking to Hurney as the sole-contributor is short-sighted

If Delhomme got something outta Colbert....I think Cam can get Gettis at the very least going

Fox isn't the one who signed off on Armanti it was Hurney.

Never mentioned Armanti...plus he's still on the team (for now haha)

Its as much about playbook, strategy, and coaching as the transaction. Its not black and white...of course Hurney makes questionable moves.

Certain players can do better in different situations. Look good in one place, look like sh*t in another. That's why a talent that may not be great could have good numbers here...then we get some value and rip some team off down the road
