AG has presented a pretty low key and stable public image throughout his life and likely wanted a private family affair.

I suspect at 86 he has had the time to contemplate his death and how he wanted it handled. If there was any indication of impending death, with a little pre-planning, his wishes could have been carried out without too much trouble.

At a time when the South is only thought to have rednecks its good to remember there are plenty of great character people as well. Love TAGS. Watched reruns with my Grandparents growing up, so it has a special meaning to me. I do my best to raise my kids the way Andy was portrayed to raise Opie. Im from Mt.Airy, Andy's home, and he very rarley came "home" not wanting to cause a big fuss.

As far as the quick burial, Im sure Andy didnt want it to be a big event or media circus. North Carolina lost a great person, Im sure Andy and Barney are on patrol in a better place.

It is a sad day. Watched The show as a kid....appreciated it as an adult. It was pure genius and will live forever.

As for the quick burial. I agree with others, likely was his wishes. Maybe he didn't want to be embalmed. Have you even seen what that entails? (Only know from watching a show about it). Nothing I want either.
