Sean Peyton is getting a divorce

There's a real fine line between what's acceptable as football smack talk and what isn't.

Guys like Ben Roethlisberger, Michael Irvin and others do plenty of "non-football" stuff that winds up being used against them by opposing fans. To be honest, I don't have a whole lot of sympathy for those guys because they pretty much did it to themselves.

But truth be told, much as I think Sean Payton is a colossal prick and probably deserving of whatever bad stuff happens to him, I still have to say I think this is over the line for me. If it turned out he was beating his wife or something of that sort, I'd say let the dogs loose. Family stuff though? That really should be off limits.

So the players who were targeted in these bounties don't have families? Payton is one sick sob, imo. He should have ended it when he knew about it, but instead he let it continue. Players have wives, sons, daughters, and most of the time their whole damn families that they support through playing football.

What does the first thing have to do with the other?? One is about his work, the other is about his personal life. They are different. It isn't as if he did something to you personally.

How is intentionally trying to cause career ending injuries to other players not personal? Does that not affect those players personal lives?

All of that was within the football realm. And within the football realm, he was punished appropriately. But it's not like I'm gonna wish for his kids to starve or for him to get a flesh rotting disease or something.

Football is about what he does for a living which of course has personal elements since it uses real people in physical situations. But a personal life outside of football has nothing to do with the Panthers. I ran it by my twelve year old just to see if he was clear about the difference, he didn't seem to have a problem understanding the difference.

If a Saints*** player who was involved in the bounty program dove at a players knee ending his career that will change that player's personal life. And do you think Peyton would have cared about that? Im reflecting on what you quoted. We shouldn't feel sorry for him since he wouldn't feel the same way of a another player injured due to the bounty program. It's not that hard to understand what I'm saying, but as usual you like to talk about something completely different and act like the other person is crazy. I'm only using logic.

Again you are totally distorting the meaning of keeping personal issues and business separate with convoluted and unrelated issues.

This whole discussion was about the fact that whether you hate or like Payton as the coach of the Saints**, being gleeful about the fact that he is getting a divorce is crossing the line between the business side of football and a coaches personal life which are not connected. Sure hate him as a rival coach, think he is a douche bag but wishing bad things on his family crosses the line in most people's opinion.

Now how you can distort that into a discussion about how bountygate and the fact that Williams advocated targeting players and Payton didn't stop it is a justification for wishing terrible things in his personal life is beyond me. Using your logic then if we find out that Suh has brain cancer we should all say he deserves it because he stomped on that players head last year trying to hurt him. Or because Romanowski was a cheap shot artist he deserves what he gets if one of his children gets shot to death in a drive by.

Sure these are extreme examples but they follow your illogical stream of thought. And if you can't see the problem and want to argue further you are beyond help..........

Everyone knows when they get married what the rules of possession are regarding shared property. If you don't want to go through a divorce then don't get married. No one put a gun to his head or anyone else's and told them they had to get married. Guys do it by the millions of their own free will. Then piss and moan when they get a divorce and have to pay what they knew they would all along.

I feel for everyone who has to go through a divorce as it sucks all the way around. But I have no sympathy for anyone who has to pay child support no matter how much. You brought them into the world now you need to pay to have them raised particularly if you aren't even going to be around to do the job except on alternate weekends. No one made you have kids and if you couldn't anticipate the future, whose fault is that??

Again if you have suffered through a divorce I can sympathize. But not wanting to take care of your children even if that means that your ex-wife uses that money to blow some of that money on herself, I don't see at all. You picked her as the mother of your children and you had the kids, now you have to deal with the consequences.

That is horrible logic. Of course everyone should take care of their kids but it's not like they predict the future and know who gets custody if a divorce happens. To say "well the knew they would have to pay if a divorce happens" isn't even close to true.

No, that is adult logic which seems to be in short supply by some people here. When you get someone pregnant you are making a lifetime commitment to that child. When you marry most people say the words for better or worse until death do we part. Sure we know that 2 out of 3 marriages end in divorce but if you aren't thinking about the future you have no business having kids or getting married. If you don't think long and hard about the consequences of what you are doing before you get married then you deserve what you get.

So every guy who has a child just should assume the other person will get custody in a divorce no matter the situation? Making a lifetime commitment to a child has nothing to do with knowing they would be the one paying child support in a divorce which is your claim based on

Please explain how guys know what will happen and who will get custody in the future if a divorce happens. How does a guy in a better financial situation than his wife who feels he deserves custody know all along that he would end up paying child support? He doesn't. So to say guys piss and moans when they knew all along what they would pay is retarded logic.

You miss the point completely, It isn't about knowing what is going to happen in 25 years or how much money you are going to make or even who will get custody. It is about knowing that the child is your responsibility and that whatever comes about due to staying married or getting a divorce should be paid without bitching given they are your child. What you know is that the commitment is to your children regardless of how the monies get divided.

And for most people unless a man can prove their spouse is totally incompetent, abusive or she abandons the child, a man won't be getting full custody. The courts usually favor a woman over a man believing the mother/child bond is sacred. So if there is going to be shared custody and that is what happens so often that you can assume it will always be the case, then if the husband make more than the wife, he will paying the lions share of child support.
