Predict the Panthers record - game by game version

Giants...Gmen...Gman...Giants fan

not a hard line to draw.

especially when we had a giants fan on here called Gman.

He wasnt a Giants fan. I would know. ;) And neither am I. My name has nothing to do with the Giants. It may have somthing to do with it being the first letter of my name.

this is my response to a thread just like this one under a different screen name...

is there any way to dig up threads from the old crashed site?

a lot of what's being said here is what was said before the start of last season...tough schedule, 9-10 wins, etc, etc...

i think i was one of the only people if not the only person who said carolina would come out of the box hot and be no less than 6-2 at the bye.

here's my take this on season...and before i get started, i'm not claiming ANY game will be easy. 90% of the time, the panthers win ugly. that's not going to change any time soon.

i don't know about the rest of the nfc south, but i believe the panthers (and the their fans) will continue defending the home turf with a vengence...especially after the embarrassment by arizona. therefore i'm tagging every home game as a win. unfortunately for panther opponents this season, it won't take half the season for the run game to explode.

week 1-eagles W

much like the san diego home opener last season, this is a statement game...@ home.

week 2-@ atlanta W

i had to think about this one for a long time. it's going to be another tough one between these two teams, but i believe matt ryan's rookie side will show it's ugly head early in the season.

week 3-@ dallas W

carolina has had it's difficulties with the cowboys in the past, but let's be serious...underneath all the hype and hooplah, dallas is a shell of a team.

week 4-bye

the panther's worst enemy...but i predict the next 3 games to be the biggest run games of the season.

week 5-washington W

remember last season's preseason dominace? that was no fluke.

week 6-@ tampa bay W

it's tough to gameplan against a team that's in complete shambles. if gruden were still at the helm, i'd give the edge to the bucs. the mad scientist (and to a much larger extent tony dungy) was the reason this collection of once high profile players was as competitive as they were. it'll be an ugly game as usual.

week 7-buffalo W

the panthers @ home. nuff said.

week 8-@ arizona W

outside of the postseason meltdown, the panthers have a history of owning the cardinals. playing in a division with the rams, seahawks, and 49ers won't carry them to the promise land this time around.

week 9-@ new orleans W

god i hate the saints.

week 10-atlanta W

can you believe a series sweep?

week 11-miami W

this is going to be a fun one to watch.

week 12-@ new york jets L

there you have it folks. the first loss of the season. and trust me...it will be depressing. the schedule will finally take it's toll on carolina.

week 13-tampa bay W

it's not good to play the panthers after an embarrassing loss...and at BOA to boot.

week 14-@ new england W/L

this one is a coin toss. i don't think new england will be the super power that it usually is, but they will always be competitive. just like the superbowl between these 2, it's going to be a mistake that determines the game.

week 15-minnesota W

for the first time in a long while, carolina plays minnesota mistake free.

week 16-@ new york giants W

the giants didn't have an answer for the panthers last season until derrick ward stepped on the field.

oh wait, no derrick ward.

week 17-new orleans W

god i hate the saints. did i say that already?

did i predict 15-1 or 14-2? holy crap.

I find it interesting that so many people think we're going to beat the Cowboys on MNF. That's the only game I'm 100% certain we're going to lose. I'm probably going to put money on that game.

yeps nfl wont let them lose

19-0 Same prediction I make every year.

I am a true fan. I put my heart into being a Panthers fan. I expect them to win every game no matter what. I treat being a fan like being a player. No player who is worth a damn goes into a game expecting to lose. You must have a winner's mentality.

I don't see how people who make the 8-8 predictions consider themselves a fan. They are a spectator at that point.

I predict the Panthers to win the Superbowl every year until they're mathematically eliminated.

Someone asks me who the best team in the NFL is? I tell them, "Panthers!" whether they're 11-4 or 1-14.

I know the NFL isn't the MLB, but did ya'll notice how the Yankees opened their new stadium? It gives me hope.

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
    • Well, we got our answer on Army today.
