There's never a guarantee to win, so saying you won't step up because there isn't a guarantee is just backpedaling. If you really felt that they had the better shot to win, and would win as you predicted, you would stand behind that.

None of the reasons to take your "challenge" have to do with whether I believe or stand behind what I've said. The biggest reason is just that it's stupid as hell to bet on a spread, especially with a laundry list of if/and/but conditions attached to it.

Not true! I guaranteed that the Jets will be the favorites in that game and I am willing to back that guarantee up. I never guaranteed that the Jets will win though because I could very easily see the panthers winning too. The bet was who would be favored since you made the absured gurantee that the panthers would be HEAVILY favored. Now you are changing the bet because you are afraid.

There are no guarantees in football, no matter what you say. So yeah, if you believe the Jets would win, and think they'd have the edge you'd stand behind that. The no-guarantee thing is a cop out, pure and simple. As for betting on a spread? You really want to compare this? Let's compare and see...

IF Sanchez starts (very possible the bet is completely voided)

IF no major injuries for either side (again, very possible the bet is voided, and "major" injury is subjective and would take heavy debate to even figure out who wins. Plus, what if both sides have major injuries? Do they cancel out?)

THEN the Panthers will be heavy favorites (Again, "heavy" favorite is subjective, would take alot of debate, and you relying on Vegas which often puts out bad spreads and spreads that induce betting rather than who will actually win)

So, either that monstrosity of a retarded wager... OR...

Panthers win, I win.

Jets win, you win.

Tie. Hell I'll even throw that in, you win.

Any person can see why I'm staying away from bet #1, and it has nothing to do with me believing what I've said (I do) Honestly, I wouldn't take EITHER side in that bet. Now I'm still willing to take a reasonable wager, like #2, although you're not... :D

Tell me something. When was the last time the panthers were heavily favored on the road? You made a bold prediction that the panthers would not only be favored but they would be HEAVILY favored at the Jets a team that is expected to be a playoff contender. That is a bold prediction to be making in May. If I had guaranteed or even "almost guranteed" something like that I would be more than willing to back that guarantee up and put my money where my mouth was. That is why I am betting you. If you were so confident you would take me up on that challenge. But clearly you arent confident in that claim and are now changing the bet because you are afraid.

Really? Not being confidant is the reason why I don't want to take that retarded wager? That's what you got out of reading my last post?

Do you really want to bet on a spread, see the Panthers struggle and the Jets play well. Hey, you're right!! But what happens, some knucklehead in Vegas puts out a bad spread and then you lose. You willing to risk being right and still losing? I'm not. I'll bet on an actual game though.

I'm so confidant that the Panthers will beat the Jets, I'll take them to win right now before TC even starts. There you go.

What I won't do, is trust some knucklehead in Vegas not to screw me over in the event that I'm right. They put out bad spreads all the time. That was a big part of me saying that I can ALMOST guarantee it, because even if the Panthers are in a position to where they should be favorites, you never know what the guys in Vegas will do. Not to mention, I said that was IF Sanchez is starting, and I don't feel like having a bet with a bunch of strings attached.

Now, the real question is whether you will actually take a reasonable W/L bet, with the team you are giving an edge, and the team you predicted to win? Last time I'll ask that and I'm guessing I get a 'no'.

If Im going to make a bet its not going to be against my favorite team. Im favoring the jets but I could very easily see the panthers winning and I hope that they do. So that bet makes zero sense. You're the one that guaranteed that the panthers would be heavily road favorites and I can guarantee you that they wont since they never are. No need to keep going back and forth on this because its clear you have already backed off of that claim.

I'm not backing off that at all. If Sanchez is starting at that point, the Panthers should be strong favorites in that game. It should be one of the easier games of the year.

And you're such a fan that you won't bet against the Panthers, but you'll sit here and say they're gonna go 7-9...

Pretty much what I thought. You're talking out your ass, and if someone challenges you to back it up, your unwilling to do it.

Then if you were confident you would take me up on that challenge. Obviously you are not so you changed the bet because you were talking out your ass the whole time.

Being a fan doenst mean I have to pick them to win every game. I would love for the panthers go 10-6 or better but for reasons already stated I dont believe they will. But Im not going to bet against them either because I hope they DO prove me wrong.

    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
