I just got some updated salary-cap numbers on the NFC South teams. Tampa Bay still leads the division in cap room with $36.3 million.

Atlanta's next with $18.1 million in space. The Saints ($6.1 million) and Panthers ($2.6 million) continue to rank among the bottom of the league in cap room.

I hate to say it, but right now Atlanta is the team that keeps me up at night. They seem to have a "perfect storm" of talent and cap space right now.

It will be most interesting to see how the personnel changes they have made on defense will affect them this coming season. Atlanta with a good defense would be formidable.

I agree but if Ryan goes into somphmore slump then they wont be as good....Probaly will not happen with their offense though...Got some good RB's to carry the load

reminder that atlanta's success in 2008 was propped up by the same thing that propped up the 2003 Panthers: hardly any injuries, miracle free agent running back signing, and a qb out of nowhere that no one had any tape on.

Catman, you know having a ton of cap space right now means nothing. the real Free agent 'threats' are gone. What most teams have on their rosters right now are what they will take to camp, give or take a few street free agents out there being added.

Also dont forget according to the media they won the south last year too. Obvious they are the team to beat.

Both the Panthers and the Falcons are gonna have to step there game up this year with the NFC East and AFC East.

Yes, the high-impact FA's are gone but the cap space allows them to add lots of depth and potentially make more trades for big-time talent... can you imagine them getting Braylon Edwards or Anquan Bolden?

I'm not saying another big trade is gonna happen, and I'm certainly not rooting for the Falcons on any level, but the fact is they are a playoff team with the 2nd most cap space in the division while we have the least cap space.
