2nd Tight End

I'm actually trying to make sense of your answer/question for my question. It's a simple question that I asked you. If they have not signed Shockey, why would they sign Shiancoe? They are similar, both vets. Shockey would be signed way before Shiancoe simply because he's played with our unit before and knows the system. I don't understand why you would even consider Shiancoe an option.

From what i understand, Shockey may not want to play period, or maybe not for what we can/or have offered him. I never said Shiancoe was a better option, you are putting words in my post.

I like what we have in Barnidge, and having Olsen as the Number 1 TE is good for me. We don't necessarily need to line up in the duel TE set every play. TBH, I rather see more Single back 3WR 1 TE sets this year, having Gettis back with Smtih and Lafell. Should be a good formation to use. IMO I believe Barnidge will be a very good TE in Chud's scheme, that is why I can't wait for Preseason to start, so we can see what he can do.

god I can't wait until Barnidge proves everyone wrong. He is a heck of a player and so many aren't even smart enough to realize that.

Yes a guy who hasn't produced the past four years he's been here, and we aren't smart enough to realize that he's a heck of a player.

Produced under Fox and Jeff Davidsons scheme. Was on IR the whole 2011 season. I just want to give the man a chance playing for a passing offense that uses TE to the best of their abilities. Not run, run, HB draw, and then punt. You know what mean?

wink wink wink.

We need to be honest here.

No one knows what GB brings to the game yet. We can speculate that he sucks, or that he is a star in the making, but the reality is, no one knows.

We'll just have to wait for camp. If he isn't getting it done, I'm sure MH will be working the phones.

they've got to feel somewhat confident in what he can do because he did get an extension last year and they haven't been concerned with replacing shockey. it's either that or they have a feeling that shockey will be coming back.

either way, they know more about the situation than we do. more than likely if barnidge did, in fact, suck they would have brought in someone else (seeing as how the 2 TE set was so beneficial last year) and probably wouldn't have given him that extension.

there's no way, though, that i'm going to hold his lack of production in a foxball system or hold his one year of IR against him. it's kind of ridiculous to do that, imo.

Visante had 2 good seasons in 08 and 09...his td's dropped a lot in 10 and he wasn't that great last year. The Vikings just let him go and signed John Carlson to a 5 yr/25 million deal.

The Seahawks offered Shiancoe a 1 year deal of 1.2 million recently and he turned it down. We paid Shockey 3.8 mil last year and would not to be upset if we gave him a similar deal to that. According to the last pft update we have 8.7 million available. Who knows who might become available later but if we reach a certain point in training camp where it becomes obvious that Barnidge isn't capable of being a legit # 2 T.E. weapon in this offense I would be okay giving Shockey as much as 3.5 to come back(obviously the less we give the better). That would still give us 5 million to carry over next year or use this year if need be. Outside of Smith,Lafell, and Olsen we our depth is highly unproven for receiving weapons.

Has anyone actually heard of what kind of deal Shockey is looking for or is he really considering retirement?

Shockey is a dick in the huddle, no NFL team wants him. His price will be driven down. My guess is he has played his last down not just as a panther but period

Where are you getting this info from? He played well for us last year, and Cam even looked up to him as a leader. Shockey is married and enjoying the life in South Florida. I wouldn't give that up unless some team offered me a reasonable price, either.

considering that 3 of barnidge's 4 years were under fox who was brilliant in the way he used TEs.

that was pretty much an ideal situation for any TE, right?

and then last year was IRed so he had every chance to show he could make it as a solid TE.

that's a straw man, just because Fox didn't use TEs doesn't mean he never had any problem replacing TEs with new ones. By his 2nd season King replaced Mangum, by his 2nd season Rosario replaced King(passing wise) and then Barnidge never did much.

I hope Barnidge does well but it's kind of weird how there is always one player that becomes so mysteriously polarizing.
