Jake gunslinger or game manger

Call whatever you like, IMO Jake is a marginally talented QB who knows where to put the ball where Stevo, and Moose like it.

No other QB to suit up for the Panthers can throw the high and outside ball the way Moose likes it. Moose can't catch balls into his body hit him in the numbers and it's a drop throw an almost impossible ball he needs to stretch out for and it's money.

Jake's chuck it up and pray ball is perfectly suited for Smith's converted return man way of receiving by finding the ball and beating the other guy to it. Smith isn't great at separating and getting open consistently, it's why he disappears when other QB's are running the O. Say what you want about how crappy the reserves have been, but it doesn't change Smith disappears when anyone other than 17 lines up under center.

So there you go that's my take, our trio of pass attack are all flawed, but just like lot's of flawed relationships they work together..... mostly.

It really doesnt matter what term we label him with.

Throw all the stats out there you like, there are reasons why teams do not fear Jake. There are reasons why NFL fans give Jake no kudos-and no its not because of the Arizona game. When nfl fans (not us) look at the Panthers they see Smith/Williams/Stewart. Jake is a poor man's Farve.

Jake is shows good flashes here and there, but he is a average qb.

Perception is reality-Jake is not a feared QB

not sure anyone said that and the idea of a gunslinger has more to do with being reckless and risk taking than being feared.

btw...people (coaches) do fear what smith does because he can make the difficult pass that no one, especially no one his size, should be able to make. those difficult passes have to come from somewhere. jake makes the difficult and extraordinary catches that no one should be able to make possible.

compliment? not really. reality? pretty much.

Wrong... Sure he can get burned and has, have never said otherwise, but he can also burn your ass. Ask the San Diego Chargers what they feel about Jake Delhomme, just ask them...
this is true. jake makes the craziest throws into the craziest of situations and more often than not in his career it has worked for the positive. of course, like with any gunslinger, when it goes bad....it really goes bad.

Did you do that on purpose, or are they so connected you can't mention one without thinking of the other?

No doubt about it, I'll never argue that point, just that sometimes he does get it right...

it was on purpose.

coaches fear smith

they fear him because he catches the difficult passes

they are difficult many times because of where those passes are placed by jake

jake makes the difficult catches (by smith) possible.

it makes gametime fun. kind of like playing chicken. adrenaline rush for everyone. 60% chance of it working. 20% chance of nothing happening and a 10% chance of it totally blowing up in our collective places. of course we have found (after a bye week?) that sometimes every throw is a beautiful as a pile of green slimy goose turds.

No one disputes Smith is feared, he is hands down the best player we have ever had. Smith will have success where ever he is playing, no matter who is throwing him the ball. ( moon walker Carr excluded)
