I agree with PSC. Fitness is a lifestyle. I don't workout, I train. If don't make changes and set goals, you won't make any long term gains. There is no quick fix. There is no silver bullet. There are no short cuts. All there is is dedication and self control. There will be sweat, pain, frustration, and exhaustion. However, if you want  to be strong, lean, or whatever your fitness goals are, it is worth it.

That's why I like to mix things up, if your goal is always the same it gets boring. As long as you are following a healthy routine to add or lose weight and you set goals for yourself you can't go wrong.

fast food, eating out, etc has become much more of a "special occasion" type thing, once a week or every couple weeks.  the most unhealthy thing i eat on a regular basis is probably white rice, which is 2 or 3 times a week.

if i could quit smoking cigarettes, my potential would be so much higher.  cardio becomes even more important to strength training if you're a smoker imo

Every one is gaining now and im gonna cut a little bit. Kale for dinner!!! This is my first experience. A la Bart Scott, CAN'T WAIT. Also Jase how much did you weigh when you started? Seems like you've put on 10-15 pounds pretty damn quick, that's pretty impressive. From 22 to 26 I put on 45 pounds. That's only like 10 lbs a year :(

I weighed about 167 about 8 weeks ago, 157 when I started back in April, 175ish now.

if you are an unhealthy person, you cannot be healthy without changing your lifestyle.   period.

I go to the gym every single day. It is my lifestyle.

My girlfriend gets benefit from going to the gym for no more than 30 minutes 3 times a week. That is no more her "lifestyle" than reading every night before bed for 30 minutes is my "lifestyle."

Gotta go with the fitness is a  lifestyle thought.  I started really seriously working out again a little over a couple of months ago and I made a lot of changes to my routine to fit in nightly visits to the gym, and to seriously training in krav maga and jiu jitsu. Additionally, I made some serious changes to my diet which eliminated a lot of the things I used to eat and now has me only eating fish, chicken, turkey, plenty of vegetables, little to no bread and not a lot of sugar at all ( I constantly am reading labels to see what sugar and sodium content is). So yeah I think it is a lifestyle change, and for what its worth, I've lost 37 pounds since I started and have completely bought in to living healthy and clean.

Just guessing here, but once you do stop smoking, you will need to crank up the intensity.

I quit smoking in April 2010. I weighed about 185 at the time. By December I was 260. I should point out that I stopped most of my routines in June 2010 due to all the back problems I was having.. but 75 pounds in 8 months!

I'm down to about 210 now. But still nowhere near the fitness level I was several years ago.
