fitness is a lifestyle, not an app or a trendy bracelet

For regular people not obsessed with lifting it could be an easy way to get healthier. I ended up purchasing a fuelband last night, so it should be here before weekend. I actually started using an app called Lose It which is free and after entering height and weight and target weight, it comes up with a target daily calorie intake and tracks your meals.

Now you might call it trendy or whatever, but when you actually start taking down your meals, you start to see things you didn't notice otherwise. I thought I was doing good loading up on fruit all day, but that is a lot of carbs that I don't always burn off depending on my workday. Also, I found a lot of hidden calories in how much salad dressing I used or assuming that because something is organic and healthy, doesn't mean it can't be loaded with calories, or sugar or carbs. Bottom line, using the Lose It app has been easy and it even comes with a barcode scanner, so I can just scan what I eat once and it saves it to my foods. I definitely recommend it to anyone that want to track their calories, carbs, etc.

Also, you can manually input exercise into app and it will convert the activity to calories burned, but it also can interface with Fueldband and wirelessly track info. I don't have a set exercise period during the week, so I do what I can during day, but I was curious what my activity level actually is. Here is a video comparing the Fitbit and Fuelband from CNET. Really good real world review:

I stopped reading right here.

Don't be a dick... or gtfo.

Everyone has different goals. What's regular and what's not?

How was that being a dick, I meant that its may not be for the full time serious workout people because it doesn't go into the type of intricate details that group may want. It's like saying the is for non advanced workout people, more beginner or mid level due to fairly basic tracking features. Not sure how that came across as an insult, but wasn't the intention, my apologies. I've actually been lurking and picking up some good info from this thread.

I'm glad you have...

Now read what you just wrote and compare it to "regular people not obsessed".

Smidge of difference.  Had you expressed it in the terms you just did, I think you'd have gotten a substantially different response from me and others.

As far as working out goes, you're right... there are more advanced people in here and more beginner oriented people in here.  Like I said, everyone has different goals... none of which are wrong.

I agree with you. I think he was just countering PSC's condescending "fitness is a lifestyle hurr durr" comment he made.

People can still benefit from fitness without it being their lifestyle.

I checked my weight and I'm up 8lbs from about 3 months ago. I actually think it a decent amount of muscle to fat by the looks of it, but I really need to get a good bmi reading.

I've been doing some cardio before my workouts to warm up, but haven't been doing a lot after lifting.

Yeah, I told you in the gym it's noticeable that you've been working out.  BMI sucks... get one of those cute brunettes in the gym to do your bodyfat %.  Win-Win.

Every one is gaining now and im gonna cut a little bit. Kale for dinner!!! This is my first experience. A la Bart Scott, CAN'T WAIT. Also Jase how much did you weigh when you started? Seems like you've put on 10-15 pounds pretty damn quick, that's pretty impressive. From 22 to 26 I put on 45 pounds. That's only like 10 lbs a year :(
