I've been trying to eat clean for a while now but the extra belly and chest weight I carry are still being stubborn. I've cut red meats and backed off of dairy except for greek yogurt.

I try to get a my protein from sources like chicken, turkey, egg whites, protein powders and of course greek yogurt. I try to make my meals for the week on the weekends and stick to them at work. This weekend i'm planning on making zucchini turkey burgers with taziki sauce made from the god-send that is 0% greek yogurt. I try to incorporate that into a lot of sauces as an extra protein source. It's an excelent substitute for mayo.

In college I worked as a manger of a vegan/vegetarian shop. Quinoa and Lintels can not be underestimated as a good grain substitute with a protein bonus.

The hardest part is sticking to the diet and not necessarily seeing the results I want. I feel like I'm eating pretty good and hopefully it pays off soon.

Of course, alcohol is the killer since it's such a social event. I don't drink a lot, but I need to try and cut back to nothing.

How about nutrition?

That's where I struggle the most.  I'll be doing great working out but it's hard to get my act together food wise and keep it together.

For the last year I've been somewhat a vegetarian, eating meat only occasionally. I didn't miss meat. The meals actually became more interesting and fun to cook. My problem is desserts at night. I can eat fantastic all day then someone pops open a bottle of wine or the kid starts begging for brownies or cookies and it all goes down hill.

This weekend I'm going to try a recipe with Quinoa. Some how cooking vegetarian for a year and I haven't made one dish with it.

Tracking exactly what you eat will help with that. An app like my fitness pal is a great option. It breaks down what macro and micro nutrients you should eat.

How long have you been eating clean? Are you tracking what you eat?

Snacks are killer... Especially pre-prepared, packaged snacks.

How would your kids feel about nutella on whole grain wheat bread, for example, instead of a cookie or a brownie?

I've been reading a little about nutella, I'm gonna give that a try.

I have him eating pretty healthy and he's very open to new things which is awesome for a 6 year old.   I try to limit his sweet intake to just a few times a week. However when I make brownies he gets like 1 or two and i eat like 4 and daddy cleans the rest out. He's skinny as a toothpick but I still don't like him eating junk for health reasons and habits.

My children hardly know what junk food is aside from ice cream or cake on their birthdays. We eat a ton of vegetables and I feel if you start them off young then they'll continue to eat healthy the rest of their lives.

Agreed. My son has ate and learned to love veggies since he could eat real food. I offer him the meal I cook. Our rule was and is If he doesn't like it, he doesn't eat.  He always eventually eats it and he typically ends up liking it.

I have friends who's kids ONLY eat mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, fries, goldfish crackers, drink CHOCOLATE milk ONLY, etc.    They make two dinners or go and get the kid chickfila multiple times a week. . I just don't get that.

I agree Cat, my kids eat junk sometimes but its the exception not the rule.

We've always done it your way, cook what we cook, and if they don't it eat, they don't eat.

We have to make a few exceptions now for our oldest as he is lactose intolerant, but otherwise we cook one meal with veggies and all eat it.

How long have you been eating clean? Are you tracking what you eat?

I've been trying to eat clean for a couple of months with the exception of a cheat meal maybe once a week and even then I go for options likes sub or grilled chicken. My biggest cutout has been sweet tea and I try to drink at least 96oz of water a day, sometimes more.

I don't really track what I eat but I try and stay consistant. When I'm at the office all day I don't really eat as much as a workout day. Generally its kashi go lean and almond milk for breakfast, a snack of something like almonds mid morning, luch of a lean meat and a vegetable, usually a piece of fruit for an afternoon snack, dinner of a lean meat and vegetable and greek yogurt with fresh fruit or kashi before bed.

On workout days I'll turn the afternoon snack into a similar meal and a protein shake post workout. I also ditch the cereal for egg whites on these days.

I know I'm not getting enough calories to really pack on muscle, but I try to keep my protein up and stick to lean meats I prepare myself. Now that I'm going back to the gym, I'll need to add some protein to my afternoon snack.

I've definately lost weight, I can see the difference and notice it a lot in my clothes. My problem areas are my gut and chest because I was very heavy when I was younger. I'm basically at a crossroads of do I need to keep trying to lose the extra weight or try to add some more muscle to help out.
