Doing Cross fit tonight for the first time then a yoga class. Not sure what I'm getting myself into with Cross fit.

Crossfit is like anything else... you get out of it what you put into it...

Two things I have noticed however... people that are into Crossfit think that it's the only workout in the world and anything else is inferior.

It seems to me that watching videos and stuff of the exercises look not so safe...

Did cross fit last night followed by a yoga class. They had a bar and we did back squats to warm up. One each time and then you add more weight until you max out. I didn't realize that was how it worked or I would have kept going, I stopped at 105 lbs. could have done more especially since it was just one squat. I thought at some point we'd be doing more than one squat ( my silly assumption).  Then we did 16 minutes of pull ups and burpees (8 pull ups every other minute, 8 burpees every other minute). I used the band, so the pull ups were easy, burpees were fine, by the end we were drenched, It was fun, they split you in groups of two so you had a team feeling/competition feeling going on and a time limit.

Overall I don't think it's for me because I like longer work outs with more variety however it even further my interest in getting a bar for my house. Squating with dumbbells feels very different.

Cross fit is a great way to get injured and forget everything you ever learned about proper form.

The important thing about crossfit is to not get into the mindset that it is a competition. You start wanting to one-up someone, and you're going to sacrifice form. You will get injured. Just compete with yourself and you'll see it's not the stupidity that is portrayed.

Also remember it is very light strength training then a 20-40 minute WOD. That really doesn't meet most people's expectations. OTOH, if you do it six times a week for weeks on end, you will experience overtraining syndrome. I think doing it about twice a week would be ideal, but with what it costs you want your money's worth.

So I finally took my stiff ass to the gym today. After a bit of a warmup, I did loosen a little. But I was like 90% done, re-racking some weights when I felt a pop in my lower back. I've only pulled a muscle once and that pretty much ruined my week. But this was different - no real pain, but it did make moving around pretty difficult.

Now I'm even stiffer but doing some calisthenics every once in a while seems to help.
