My girlfriend and I just did a 4-day, 140-mil mountain biking trip up the C&O Canal Trail this past long weekend. Up til now, I had hit the gym occasionally, and I usually do the exercise bike every morning before work. But my workout routine is hardly "warrior" level.

We've resolved to keep up the activity-level since our trip. I took yesterday off to recover, but I'm trying to find a routine to settle into now. Any recommendations? And keep in mind, the goal is weight loss and definition, not max weight and bulk.

Most will tell you that T25/P90X/Insanity is the way to go. I know you say weight loss and definition is your goal, but that might change. I am on the T25 program and got down below 153. I'm a fairly athletic 6' and that is way to small. Had to start eating more. If I kept going and stayed with the program, I would be toned and ripped, but also weight like 140lbs. So, the program might satisfy your expectations as they stand now, but they are general plans that you can tailor to fit your needs. But for now, if cutting weight is your goal, then any of those options will work. The key: control your diet.

Do you think so even if  I tore just the meniscus (small)? It swells up just a little on the around my knee cap, inner leg.

 

you're right, i was thinking more about the tendons, ligaments, cartilage

 

 

There are three types of meniscus tears. Each has its own set of symptoms.

With a minor tear, you may have slight pain and swelling. This usually goes away in 2 or 3 weeks.

moderate tear can cause pain at the side or center of your knee. Swelling slowly gets worse over 2 or 3 days. This may make your knee feel stiff and limit how you can bend your knee, but walking is usually possible. You might feel a sharp pain when you twist your knee or squat. These symptoms may go away in 1 or 2 weeks but can come back if you twist or overuse your knee. The pain may come and go for years if the tear isn't treated.

In severe tears, pieces of the torn meniscus can move into the joint space. This can make your knee catch, pop, or lock. You may not be able to straighten it. Your knee may feel "wobbly" or give way without warning. It may swell and become stiff right after the injury or within 2 or 3 days.

If you are older and your meniscus is worn, you may not know what you did to cause the tear. You may only remember feeling pain after you got up from a squatting position, for example. Pain and slight swelling are often the only symptoms.

That's why I don't run either... it kills my knees.

 

 

I've been getting up with the wife at 6AM everyday lately and walking two miles...  then hitting the gym in the evenings after work to lift and do some HIT cardio.

 

Or you could move to Wilmington and hit the weights with me and Joscott.  We'll have veins popping out in no time.

 

Not to hijack, but if you get me a job, I'm there.  I'd love to have veins poking out everywhere.

what are you doing? Cardio or lifting?

I do not eat in the morning before we walk.

I do eat about 45 minutes before I lift. I cannot lift when hungry.

Cardio. I'm trying to lose weight and tone. At first I wasn't eating before my workout but a couple of weeks ago I started having a protein bar. I've also tried a handful of almonds.

3. Train on an empty stomach. Work out three to five hours after your last meal (depending on the size of your meals). This ensures you've been able to convert that meal to muscle glycogen, so you can train your hardest and maximize your body's ability to use fat for fuel. A University of Birmingham study bolstered the effects of this long-time sports practice in 2010.

This is from an article I posted a few weeks ago.

Yeah I've seen arguments for and against it. This article says 3-5 hours after your last meal. I don't eat anything after 7pm and get up at 5:15 and workout from 6-7am. That's almost 12 hours. You think it's still ok to go on an empty stomach?

If your body can do it, I'd wait to eat.  Just my opinion. How long are your workouts?

    • I’m leaning QB, but that top 3 would be something special 
    • I really like that nothing was ever handed to him, he was a 0 star recruit out of high school and had to earn his way as a starting QB. Not a common path for a QB, and the opposite of many coddled first round QB prospects. He has everything you’re looking for in terms of physical abilities. To your point, if he finish strong in the playoffs, he will be close to a no brainer at no 1. But we will have to wait to find out.
    • I watched to OL--Hunt?  Earn your money son---they bull rushed you into Bryce all day. BC?  Good work.  He was solid.  I think better than what I saw of Corbett.  Wonder how PFF saw it?
