Huddle Workout Warriors

Ok huddle family, I'm in the program now help me out.

I started working out at the Y last week. Decided to start slow since I am waaay outta shape. Walked 1/2 mile then ran 1/2 mile to warm up then shot some hoops with intermittent full court sprints. Went well for the first few days but by the end of the week I could barely walk my knees hurt so bad (I have bad knees/damaged cartilage). Nothing but water and a couple coffees in the morning. Food intake was good, averaging around 1500 calories per day of good food.

This morning I rode the stationary bike for an hour to save my knees and while my knees aren't so sore I didn't feel like it was as good a workout.

Here are my questions. Should I be eating before my 6am workout? Currently I'm not eating until I have oatmeal after I get to work at 8.

Also, what is a good routine for a beginner like me? I want to get some really effective workouts going. I don't care about bulk just want to be slim flexible and have good stamina. (Bulky muscles are no good for drumming)

I know I sound like a broken record by now but have you considered jumping rope? It's a lot less stress on your knees depending on your weight and you will burn calories at a much faster rate if you jump for 10-15 mins. It might also help aid you to get in shape for running. I've noticed that it's easier to run myself and I have a better spring in my step now after about a month of jump rope 4-5 times a week, off on weekends.

I just completed that 60 day insanity workout, did the best I could with a bad wrist + neck and back issues. Probably gonna start free lifting after I take a little break from what was a f*cking brutal 2 month stretch lol, what do you all think?

My knees aren't great, but I've alleviated a lot of snap-crackle-pop and discomfort during leg exercises by spending a few minutes on the bikes before doing anything else.  Seems to get everything lubed up in the joint.

Then I squat some heavy weight.

BTW I can barely stand up today.

You stretching beforehand?

Yeah, that eating thing sucks... I'm starving all the time.  Literally all the time.

Set a new PR on dead yesterday even if it was only by 5lbs.  Got 520x1 on the last set.  Of more import to me was the 460x3, on the third set from the end.  First time I've got that for that many reps.  I think I need to back off my max for a bit and try to do more of the 3-4 rep range at those heavier weights to get the max up.

520 has got to be right near my absolute max right now. I tried 550 two weeks ago and didn't get it.

I could barely walk yesterday from the previous leg day but still pounded out some shoulder work.

Had sex last night afterward (TMI?) and now the legs doms is even worse today. :(
