Worked out at Planet Fitness today. I get in free as my girl friend's guest. I gotta say, I came away highly impressed. No sauna or steam room, but they do have tanning beds for when the summer comes around (or year-round if that's your thing). She pays $20/month.

Loads of cardio. Two of some machines so you don't wait. Two circuit training areas, one for cardio and strength, and one for abs. The cardio circuit lasts for 30 minutes and is definitely something that keeps you focused. Works great as a warm up if you wanna go light and get your muscles moving. Floor plan is great; nice and big.

Not that much in the way of free weights, but I don't think enough people use them to interfere with any workouts.

I understand opposite views might be out there about Planet Fitness.  But as a one-time assessment, I can't really complain too much.  I did see three guys in there that had tremendous muscle mass, so PF can't be too unaccepting of more "advanced" health goals.

Anyway, I'll probably go once a week as part of my weekend errands.  I'll post my experiences.

Anyway, woke up today feeling refreshed.  I have probably lost about 4 inches in my beer gut.  Some fat, some bloat, some water weight.  In either event, my stomach mass is improving.  Starting to see more definition in my obliques, chest, upper abs, and shoulders.  I feel like I'm finally starting at 0 as opposed to the -10 I began at, so to speak.  Guess I'm going into phase 2.

BTW, no special pills like hydroxycut, advocare, or anything similar.  I am using some Super Cleanse pills right now, but I do that about once a year anyway to flush my system.  Other than that, it's just been keeping a good diet and going to the gym.  That and I'll spontaneously break out into lunges or jumping jacks while walking down the sidewalk--ha...joking...sorta...maybe a pushup or two

Breakfast this morning:

  • High-fiber Oatmeal with berries and walnuts [used skim milk]
  • Banana
  • Rickland Orchards greek yogurt granola bar [best granola bar on the market; Walmart has them the cheapest of all the places I have looked]

I mean I don't think there's anything "wrong" with PF.  I wouldn't personally go there based on what I've heard about them and frankly their commercials are offensive to me... I mean I get it that there are condescending muscle heads in some gyms and people can be intimidated by that, but they play on that a little too hard imo.

There are certainly muscle heads in my gym no question, but honestly the people that are the biggest assholes are definitely not the muscle heads... it's the people that have zero gym etiquette who are generally people are who just assholes all the time anyway.

I go to Planet Fitness simply because it's cheap and three minutes from my house.  For $10 a month I can do without deadlift.

It does get crowded around the free weights on week nights and the "lunk alarm" is the dumbest thing ever, but it's not a big issue.

I also work out with a personal trainer once a week so PF is sort of like a supplement to keep me busy between those butt-kicking sessions.

Not sure if anyone is in Greensboro. There is a gym called Workout Anytime. It is 15 bucks a month and open 24/7. They have trainers there during the day, in unmanned hours the door is lock and you use your membership card to swipe and let you in. They have no good equipment in there from cario, machine weights to free weights. Never too crowed and by having a membership, you get discounts at other places. I joined in January and I am trying to lose at least 30 lbs, wish me luck
