Is this what you're talking about?

trap-bar-dead-bad-form.jpg

Our gym has one, but I've never used it. I picked it up one time and I think that'd hurt my shoulders with the wide grip.

I've never seen one quite like that. Some people call them hex bars. They are better for shrugs than deadlifts, but they are easier to grip if that's where you struggle.

But that picture is a strange bar and even stranger form.

We were required to use them in highschool. Both Valdosta Ga (Jermaine Holmes,Mike Gilliard etc.) and Lowndes Ga (Telvin Smith,Greg reid etc.) We never did shrugs with them. We were only allowed to use them for deadlift and we did it twice a week usually 3 sets of 5 with our hex bar being around 75 lbs.

We got them sometime during my junior year in high school and were forced to use them for DL also. I remember almost everyone setting a new PR almost immediately.

That's pretty much what the one at our gym looks like.

Speaking of deadlift... I did them yesterday and finally had the balls to try 500lbs. Got it for 1 rep pretty easily. Onward and upward I suppose.

Should we start an offshoot thread for DL? Ha. As for me, I'm too chicken to start doing them again. Maybe another week or two of lower back focus before I'll feel comfortable putting that type if strain on it again. Think I'll start out with an earth-shattering 135.

personally, I think if your lower back is bearing most of the stress during your deadlifts, one of three things is happening:

1. your spinal erectors are too weak.  Drop your weight down or add in some good mornings or both.

2. you have a previous injury

3. you need to check your form

Ding ding.

It's not that my lower back has most of the stress, it's just that the stress it does bear tends to aggravate it more than it should. I could probably start back up again, but out of an abundance of caution, I'm making sure my back is 101%

My max deadlift right now is 285 but Im not trying to max out for a while. I want to be repping 260-275 with good form before I try to max again.

I normally warm up with 135, then do a set at 180 then 225. But I'm thinking of starting the warm up at 150-180, then start the first set at 225. 225 is starting to become a bread and butter set for me. It's awesome to know you're getting stronger.
