What is the deal with people walking up to the dumbbell rack, picking up their dumbbell and doing their set right in front of the rack?

Is it just me or is that rude as poo? Other people are trying to use those dumbbells without waiting for you to squeeze out 9 arnold presses.

I'll never understand why people do that. I've seen guys stand in front of the rack and do a bicep curl or lawn mower with a 30# weight. If you can't pick up a weight and move 3 steps back, you don't need to be lifting that weight.

The way our gym is set up, the benches are right next to the free weights, so there is only enough room to get your weight and move. Some people are just assholes or not very smart.

Jerry, that you?

On a serious note, just walk up and grab the weight you need, no matter if it's right beside them.  After all, they're the ones being the asshole; having to crowd them to grab your weight is just a subtle way of letting them know.

Now, if it's the weight you need, then you have no reason to bitch.

I think the majority of people that do it are just ignorant.  Probably the same type of people that don't turn right at a red light.

Yeah, but it's really common sense/courtesy to try and not be in other peoples way.

How hard is it to think "hmmm... if I stand here, no one else can get the weights..."?

Similar things can be said about people's driving habits for sure.

Fiz, you use chalk or stickem or what?  I can get 405 (183k) with nothing for reps, but much higher and the bar slips on me...

Next time I DL I'm trying 500. I got 475 last week with no problem.  I'd like to do it unstrapped.

chalk.

using straps is a risky proposition.

liquid chalk can be good. some people don't like it because it feels funny. you can just put a piece of chalk in your pocket. Or go to a crossfit gym that offers oly only classes. Most big ones are starting to.

The reason you don't want to PR with straps is you're taking a fail safe mechanism out of the lifting equation. Grip strength is a natural limiter for what you can safely lift. Most people don't have dramatically stronger hands than hamstrings/glutes/erectors. You might be increasing your risk of injury.

Additionally, have you tried mixed grip like I do in that video?

Yeah I do the mixed grip always have...

I can see your point about straps... Never really mattered but I'm getting to the point weight wise where I Can see where being able to simply let go is helpful if the pull doesn't go well...
