Was talking via PM to sagaciouspanther about stuff and we got to talking about working out. He said he may or may not need some motivation and I had been thinking about starting a new workout thread for those of you who do work out, or want to start working out...

I've been lifting off and on since 1996... I got back into it seriously in about 2006 and last year after my rehab from shoulder surgery got REAL serious about it.

So I wanted to start a thread where we could discuss it and get ideas.

I'm currently trying to cut some fat with my workouts/supplements. I'm walking 30 minutes in the morning and doing cardio/lifting in the evenings after work. I'm off of creatine monohydrate for now, and I'm taking GNC's Ripped Vitapak and Cellucor C4 pre-workout, along with protein supplements during the day and after my evening workout.

Two more weeks of that and I'm getting off the vitapak and back on some creatine, and I'll probably get some M5 pre-workout then. I've dropped from 6'0", 225 (which I had been at for some time) down to my current weight of 215 and haven't lost any muscle that I can tell. Strength seems to be about the same too...

I don't do a lot of running because it irritates my knees. Would love to, just can't do it.

What are you guys doing?

We just got a heavy bag/speed bag combo here at work. Great full body, strength and cardio workout at once. I drip with sweat and my shoulders and legs kill me after I am done. I do that three times a week and lift twice a week, and the next week I flip it.

Today I'm running 400m repeats during lunch.

Dude that's a quarter mile... how many repeats do you do???

I've very seriously considered enrolling in some MMA training or something, I know they do a lot of work like this^. Anybody got suggestions on that?

I don't take a class or anything ... I just bob and weave and beat the hell out of the bag with combo punches. I do it more as a stress reliever and picture the bag is my VP's ugly-ass face and throw jabs, crosses and hooks.

They had a heavy bag hanging in our gym for a while, but they took it out... I think some of the gym patrons got a little carried away with it... lol I never tried it.

I just try to do something active every day. Whether its the Y, mountain biking, wake boarding, etc. I don't track anything. I just make sure I am active for an hour a day. Its a lifestyle thing, not a workout routine. I can easily run a mile, bench press my weight, do pullups, everything a man should be able to do.

That's a good plan and something a lot of people don't do, they'd rather sit in front of the TV.

I personally have to make it more structured than that for me to be motivated to do it... otherwise other life stuff gets in the way.

Don't think I can run a mile with my knees but I'm in the shape to do it, and can do all the rest of that stuff with ease. I could probably bench 215 18-20 times if I just laid down and did it... never really tried to see how many pull ups I can do, but I've been doing 4 sets of pull downs, then 3 sets of 10 pullups after that... so... Just trying to get back into squats, kills my shoulders to hold the bar on, but I'm working on it.

Benefits of owning your own business.

I used to get up at 5:30 and ride my bike because there is zero time after work between the kids and dinner. Stuff doesn't calm down until 8:30-9 and by that time it's like fug it.

    • Yeah and he succeeded at an even higher level in LA with an even better surrounding cast. Goff is a guy that isn't really able to dramatically elevate players around him but he can make a good situation even better. He is capable of that. Some QB's aren't. I am not sure Dak is able to do that and he is in a similar "class" as Goff, IMO.
    • i think i could handle that for a year. beyond that....i don't know.  back where we lived, when we had a few inches of snow, it might have been a couple feet because we weren't getting out and doing anything. i remember times where power would go out for days on end. we had propane and electric heat, depending on the floor. basement (had a couple bedrooms and a living room and kitchen down there) and main floor had gas logs. main floor gas logs was enough to take care of the upstairs, so we could stay warm and cook on the grill when we needed. we had a well so that was always an issue when the power went out. had to make sure tubs were filled with water for the toilets and we had gallons of water for drinking and cooking available. always had to make sure we were ready. that wasn't always the case. we had a couple moments where we were going through propane quickly and because we were dealing with the worst propane company in the world (amerigas) they wouldn't get out to put gas in our 900 gallon tank. made for some nerve racking moments.  i know y'all were probably a lot more able to handle that kind of thing, but after the little bit (comparatively) that we got here i just have no desire to get trapped again. maybe for a day or two a year get snowed in and i'm good.
    • I think he is just drawing a DC to them line and that's about as far as his thought process went. It makes almost no sense outside of that. Also, it doesn't make sense for Pittsburgh or Seattle at this juncture either.  I think our "veteran" pool is basically gonna be the Dalton/Flacco tier or the "pick your poison" options of young busts(Jones/Z. Wilson) or wild, TO prone gunslingers(Darnold/Winston/etc). We have the option to pursue I genuinely believe(depending on the way the rest of this season goes), we either draft a QB in the top 10 or resign Dalton. Outlier third option on taking one of the wild gunslingers that Dave feels like he can work with.
